i don't know if there's already been a post regarding the parking situation near the georgia dome.

i'm staying at a hotel about 9 miles from the dome and thinking about cabbing it up. i figured that if the parking was over 30$, then it may be worth it to just pay the cab fee and not worry about taking my car downtown. i know there's a parking garage near the dome and phillips arena, but i imagine that it would be full before 4 pm. i do plan on attending the fan fest, but don't know what time i'll arrive in the city. is this a stupid idea?

I'd say Marta would be a better deal and possibly cheaper as well versus taking a Cab.

Ride Marta. It puts you out right at the stadium. For anyone who is not staying at a hotel I suggest parking at the H.E. Holmes Marta station. Its on I20. Your looking at a 10 min ride from there to the dome.

park in the blue lot or orange lots right near the dome (they have a map on their website) for $8--but get there early enough to get a good spot!!!

Parking near the dome will run you $15 - $25, easy. Your best(and cheapest) bet is to park at a Marta station and ride the rails in.

Marta drops you off right at the Dome.

Yeah, riding the Marta for the SEC Championship game in 2007 was perfect. The station is right next to the dome.

I'm on "Fulton Industrial Boulevard" southwest

Options:
* Drive to Dome - Orange Lot ($10), Yellow Lot ($8), Green Lot ($8). Info including cost is here:
http://www.gadome.com/events/2009_CFAACCSEC.html
There appears to be a link on the page to prepurchase parking permits.
* Cab it - Hotel should be able to help with estimated cost.
* Cab it to nearest Marta Station (4 miles) - Hamilton E. Holmes station. Ride Marta to Dome (about 3 stops) - Vine City Station. Marta will be about $4 round trip.

Yellow lot off Northside Drive. $8 and lots of tailgating! Where we park for Falcons and past SECCGs

Am I reading the Marta map right?

I am staying at Westin - Peachtree Plaza.

It looks like there is a Marta rail stop right near there at Peachtree Center. Seems obvious, but just want to check beforehand.

Secondly, is the Dome within reasonable walking distance of the Westin? I'd rather not, but if I have to walk. Or, for those of you that know this area, is it seriously not a safe idea to walk it.

Thanks.

Marta - Peachtree Center Station. Go south 1 stop to Five Points station. Take West bound line 1 stop to Dome/GWCC?Phillips Arena Station.

Walking - Dome is 1 mile. There should be a lot of people out and about NYE so walking should not be a problem.

Yeah, it's a straight shot, well traveled and less than a mile:

from: 191 Peachtree St NE, Atlanta, Fulton, Georgia 30303 to: 285 Andrew Young International Blvd, Atlanta, GA 30313-1513 (Georgia State Government Georgia Dome One Georgia Drive: Ticket Information) - Google Maps

Or for about $10, you can take a horse-drawn carriage.

Buy an all day MARTA pass and use that instead of trying to find parking closer to the dome. Be prepared for a long wait to get on after the game. Still, it is the best way to get to and from your game.

The wife and I will probably take Marta from the Buckhead area. I do have a parking pass near the dome but I'm not sure I want to drive just in case we end up near the Peach Drop and drink a few.

The Charlotte area..work in Charlotte and live 25 miles north in the Lake Norman area.

After looking further into it Marta doesn't run back to the Buckhead area after 9 pm or so from what the wife said so we may leave from the Lenox area and then back to hotel. Just a thought.

I'd hate to leave from Buckhead and then after the game find out I can't get back and have to cab it from downtown so I'll look more in to it to be sure.

*edit* Well after further review :eek:lol:....I'm not really sure about the "after 9 pm" schedule for the Red Line...maybe someone else will chime in and clear this up ?
