Paramount cuts ties with Tom Cruise's behavior

Is it me, or does it seem like we're just picking on Cruise because we decided that we needed a token Tom to rag on, but and we're just not comfortable with casting Justice Thomas in that role for things as petty as sexual abuse and blackploitation?

Our society seems to need a famous Tom to label and symbolically pick on, but isn't Cruise, at the worst, just a famous putz? Does he really fill, much less satisfy our Tom need?

I mean, sure, he's a White man who can dance and he's painfully good looking, but, when it comes down to it, is that really enough to qualify him for official abuse under the Tom category? Aren't there better and more appropriate Toms we could be ragging on?

The category of othering "Tom" used to mean something important. As big an impression as the conveniently first-named Mr. Cruise makes, is he really who we want to name as our generation's definition of what it means to be a "Tom"?

I believe this was a big mistake by Paramount. I could care less about Tom Cruise's behavior. It is a little irrational, but that is it. He has not done anything illegal or blatantly harmful to anyone. I believe Paramount made the decision to cut ties based upon their desire to keep Matt Stone and Trey Parker. However, what they fail to realize is that for all the humor that Stone and Parker are responsible for, Tom Cruise in a good movie will always outdraw Stone and Parkers' best movie.

It was their call. With Tom making more and more poor PR moves, his popularity is dropping. Seeing the numbers drop on his last movie and how no one wants him on their show or endorsing their product, he's a liability. Shoving your personal views (religion or not) down people's throats is not the best way to make and keep friends and it's not the best way to do business. Paramount has enough ties to keep them afloat. They'll survive.

Between doing a modified version of the "cabbage patch" and his little couch jumping incident, I wonder if HE needs some of those drugs he always criticises.

I've never been a Tom Cruise fan...and at numerous times, I think his acting lacked a good bit...
