Inherited? I admire him for staying and going through what he did, but it was his choice to stay just as it is as his choice to leave. I voted yes, just because I had a choice and he is the new coach. See how it works? Don't over analyze this, the D Line is in good hands with him.

I didn't over analyze it. It was a really simple question. Our best assistant left. We replaced him with someone who isn't as good at this point in their respective careers. So I voted no. See how it works?

I'd rather be a Dline coach at Miami than a DC at Tennessee Tech. Especially if I already had HC on my resume.

And you'd think having been at Notre Dame, Wisconsin, Miami and Washington, that he would have gotten a better gig following his stint with the Redskins.

Still seems weird to me.

Well being DC, IMO, would be a lot of fun. Definitely more fun then a position coach. And plus he probably got a nice pay raise. He definitely seems to like being in Tennessee too with how many times he's wound up there over his career.

I don't know if he will be a good fit or not for UTK. But, as an MT fan I am glad he is gone. In his couple of years there, the lines considerably got worse. Again, might not be entirely his fought since we lost Manny Diaz. But of all the coaches MT has, he wasn't a guy I am sad we lost.

The truth is great when it benefits the program, when it does not, it is better to hide it until better times. That is the way of the world, for better or worse. I am sure you understand what I am saying.

Sometimes. Criticism is the catalyst for change though. I hope Dooley turns it around and proves me and others wrong but I think he will never be a good coach much less a great one.

You are correct about the first part, but you have to understand that there is a good time and a bad time for everything, timing is very important.:salute:

LT did us a favor by staying after the fiasco but it was his choice to leave...he was making 400k a year as a line coach..plenty of money with not nearly as much responsibility

Interesting perspective.
But most interesting is the use of fought instead of fault. I guess spell checker doesn't catch everything.

His resume is freaking weird.

Went from Notre Dame to Austin Peay.

Went from Miami to Tennessee Tech.

Went from Redskins to Middle Tennessee.

Absolutely. I read that and heard the theme from the Twilight Zone. Maybe he's got him a love child in Soddy Daisy. Maybe he's got him a few in the Great State of Tennessee...

His resume says upgrade..JUst look at what Wisconsin has become in the last 15 years. They have beasts every year on both sides of the ball. That happens because a groundwork was laid and it just maintained itself year in and year out. We need to exercise some patience again this year, because we will have the fourth staff in 5 years. Hopefully some of the new defensive schemes with DSS will overlap some we aren't starting at square one again. I think we have something to look forward to ....just give it time.

Are yall serious? One was hired away by the national champs and the other was last at mtsu and is 60 yrs old. It's a downgrade

AND others who are wondering or questioning Coach Palermo professional movements here's a little background...

CJP joined Lou Holtz at MN. Then HCLH took the ND job. When CJP's contract was up he joined HCLH to ND. HCLH retired from ND and CJP returned to APSU as AHC. He left APSU after one yr because Barry Alverez (who also had coached (with CJP) under Lou Holtz at ND) asked CJP to join him at Wisc. When Alverez resigned CJP accepted an offer from Miami where his DLine helped set a school record to holding opponenets to 66 yds / gm. The next yr TT HC Watson Brown (an old friend from their coaching days at APSU) asked CJP to join him and DC. CJP helped HCWB rebuild TT, his defense led the OVC in Total Defense for most of 2007 and 3 defensive players earn All-OVC. CJP was then approached and offered bythe WA Redskins to become DC / DL Coach. When the staff was released CJP accepted an offer to join MTSU's staff. He coached two yrs before resigning in Dec 2011.

Coaching Achievements:
-Developed the talents of two players at Wisconsin who became first-round draft choices in the NFL: Erasmus James (2005, Minnesota Vikings) and Wendell Bryant (2002, Arizona Cardinals)
-His entire 2004 defensive line was selected in the 2005 NFL draft: (Erasmus James, Jonathan Welsh, Anttaj Hawthorne and Jason Jefferson)
-Played an integral role in the development of four first-team All-Americans at Wisconsin: Tarek Saleh (1996), Tom Burke (1998), Wendell Bryant (2001) and Erasmus James (2004)
-Coached Notre Dame's Chris Zorich, who was a consensus All-American and Lombardi Award winner in 1990
-Molded a line that was a vital ingredient of the 1998 Wisconsin defense that led the nation in scoring defense and was fourth in run defense and fifth in total defense

-ND went undefeated and won the NC in '88.
-Wisc won three Big Ten Titles and three Rose Bowls AND in 2004 his entire D-Line was drafted by the NFL.

Prominent Players Coached:
Erasmus James (Wisconsin) - Minnesota Vikings
Jonathan Welsh (Wisconsin) - Indianapolis Colts
Anttaj Hawthorne (Wisconsin) - Oakland Raiders
Jason Jefferson (Wisconsin) - New Orleans Saints
Wendell Bryant (Wisconsin) - Arizona Cardinals
Terak Saleh (Wisconsin) - Carolina Panthers
Tom Burke (Wisconsin) - Arizona Cardinals
Jason Maniecki (Wisconsin) - Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Matt Schaughnessy (Wisconsin, Freshman All-American)
Chris Zorich (Notre Dame) - Chicago Bears
Jeff Alm (Notre Dame) - Houston Oilers

Brings a lot to the table. Solid hire. IMO.

Go VOLS! VFL!

It's just so much easier to read one thing, make up your mind, take a position, and ignore any additional info.

The results of this poll are the most laughable thing I've ever read on Volnation. Thompson is a top 10 assistant in the country.

If that was true his salary would reflect that.

He's a good guy and a solid recruiter but "top 10 assistant" you sound like Clay Travis fabricating his own book sales figures.

The poll results are retarded. A top recruiter and good coach for a old MTSU non-recruiter. We could have Vince Lombardi and fire him for Gerry DiNardo and people on here would claim its an upgrade.

Lance Thompson is not worthy to wipe Palermo's butt when it comes to being a on the field teaching coach. Lance is a gun for hire recruiter and that is about it.

Downgrade and it's not even close. One we hired away from the reigning national champs, the other we hired away from the local Murfreesboro school. I'm not saying Palmero isn't good, but he's not Lance Thompson.

this I like LT but it seems that he is a good assistant, but top 10 seems to be a stretch

First off we hired the coach away from the national champs

Bama hired a coach who did a good job for us, but I haven't seem any factual indications he was a great coach at UT

Finally
IMO the only reason Palmero was at MTSU is because his wife is from TN and he enjoys living here...

if u know different abut this last statement please enlighten me
