i've been wondering about this for a few weeks now, but i was wanting to know if anyone knows why palardy isn't getting any touchbacks? all i heard coming into this season was how he could kick the ball a mile. off the top of my head i don't think i've seen him kick the 1st touchback yet!! If anyone knows why please fill me in. I know that sometimes they are trying to kick it to like the 1 yd line and all that, but i know that sometimes he has to be trying to drill it through the endzone, but it ain't happening!!! what's the deal?:loco:

Off the top of my head i would think a freshman kicking in front of 75,000 to 105,000 every week. Last year he was kicking in high school. He will develop more and get stronger. Not worried about him. He will be OK

In high school football in Florida I believe you kick from the 45..In college ball you kick from the 35

IMO, he is a freshman with a freshman leg kicking off a lower tee from further back. He is unable to kick it through the end-zone. He is kicking shorter and higher to give his defense time to cover the kick. It seems to be working.

There was a thread with regards to the Wilson ball TN uses.....and as stated 10 yds further back makes it harder

I think the staff prefers hangtime over distance. Kicking game has been good as far as no one running one back on UT.

he showed his potential on one kick Saturday. It was perfectly inside the five in the corner.

I think he is improving. If he can get to where he places the ball inside the ten on the sideline consistently with the hang time he's been using, and keep it inbounds, returners are not going to be able to do much. And I do believe he can kick it into the endzone but it would be with much less hangtime. The returner would have a head of steam and be at the 15 to 20 before anyone got there. Would much rather have the hangtime kicks and they be shorter.

He kicked it in the endzone once last night I know. But he had a bunch of short ones last week.

Special teams is key to Dooley, he has mentioned this time and time again. I had thought many times about mentioning the idea that they are trying to keep from out kicking the special teams. If Palardy boots it seven yards deep and they bring it out and our team hasn't made it to the 30, we're in big trouble. The high kick to the 5- 10 makes a lot of sense.

Remember DEPTH is a huge issue. Our guys running on special teams are almost all on the D or O who just came off or are getting ready to come on.

The freshman weak leg is not the case. Palardy was kicking THROUGH his endzone in highschool. not to it. the 30 would not likely impact him as much as many of the threads have indicated.

:loco: God I love this smiley.

It's not uncommon for teams to have little or no touchbacks since moving the ball back to the 30. There are only a handful of kickers who can regularly put it deep in the endzone. If you are getting one a game that's pretty good. If you are getting none that is not a crisis as long as you have solid coverage.

Here's my two cents from someone who knows nothing about Kickoffs. The Memphis & Ole Miss games he kicked it to the 10 - 15 yard line, but they consistently didn't get past the 25. This is better than earlier in the year when teams were regularly hitting the 35 or 40.

IMO we regressed against Vandy, as they were getting to the 25-40 yard line on kickoffs. One good kick inside the 5 and we stopped them short of the 20, but pretty inconsistent.

I'm going to assume that he will get better.

I don't ever remember us having a kicker who could consistently put it in the endzone....

i know all of this. that being said, i read something on here about how his senior year they had him kicking from the 30 to get ready for college and he was still booting it through the endzone. It's not like i'm worried about it or anything, i was just wondering. dang...chill out. i still think like all of yall that he's gonna be a freakin awesome kicker. I just thought i'd see more touchbacks, that's all.:peace2:

the high kick theory makes a lot of sense to me. i don't know why i didn't think about that myself. thanks for bringin that to my attention. We all have blonde moments from time to time.
