Palardy complainers take note:

UT was a perfect 5-for-5 on field goals, with sophomore placekicker Michael Palardy responsible for four. Palardy displayed range, connecting on a 52-yarder. His 33-yard field goal wrapped up an impressive and lengthy drive. . . . Vol Report: Scrimmage 2 Efficient University of Tennessee Athletics

Also on same site mention is made of Rod Wilks' performance. The guy may finally be a football player instead of a running joke. So glad to see he's being taken seriously by the coaching staff.

I'm pretty sure the Palardy stats were one of the first things us "Palardy complainers" noticed from the scrimmage. I am a fan of Palardy, and I hope he continues to improve.

Rod has always been a football player. The jokes were more toward the poster that pumped him up than about Rod. The same thing would have happened to any other player if they had a poster with a man crush on them too.

Even if I am excite about Palardy's stats and no doubt I am. It worries me that we had to kick 5 field goals. We need to finish more drives and I think Dooley said the same after the scrimmage but I will take possitives in the kicking game whenever we can get. Maybe he getting his stride.

Rod Wilkes is still young and will mature. I treat him as a good football player and not a joke. We have some sick people who do this to kids on OUR team. I guess they believe it is funny or entertaining, but they are picking on someone who they can hide from and can't defend himself.

it has absolutely nothing to do with how anyone feels about RW

Well, I agree. On the other hand, maybe our defense is better than expected. On the other hand, maybe our offense is worse than expected. On the other hand, oh heck, there isn't any other hand.

I have no problem with Palardy, he was a freshman last year. Scrimmage stats do not mean squat, wait till the real games start.

Usually true but kicking field goals isn't much different whether its in a game or a scrimmage. If anything it's harder. It's the one stat that does have some relevance.

I agree, but As long as were making them makes a huge difference. In the past 2 yrs we could have won some big games by making a fg or 2. Especially last yr and the bama game the yr before. Sometimes thats all you need.

Field Goal kicking is usually just a foot note in most games, unless the game is on the line in the final seconds. Then field goal kicking can be a matter of life and death.
Its a tough job that usually goes unnoticed and then, very quickly, you can become the hero of the world or the scum of the earth. Hopefully Palardy will be the hero a couple times this year, like perhaps against AL!

Not saying, just saying.

Ever notice that when CDD gets on some kids for their performance or attitude that he is quick to compliment them when they turn it around. Some posters on here would do well to emulate him.

Enough with the RW comments. IMO it's moronic to use a guy as your personal joke, especially when he is a student athlete at our beloved UT. Respect the guy for what he is doing for the program, the fans, and himself - no matter what a poster says to get under your skin. Rise above - not sink below.

Not a Parlardy hater here...but I have to admit after last year coupled with the O&W game and our first few scrimages that out kicking game concerned me more than anything else this year.

Concern and putting down a player are two different things. Not targeting you or anybody personally, but the kid had a groin injury. Then there was mention he always had his head down at practice lately. Seems to be a confidence matter to go along with injury recovery. That's a time to offer encouragement rather than belittling as some did. I it's wonderful he booted a kick at 50+ yards. This indicates the long rang ability his leg strength affords him may be coming around. Despite that lead brick Wilson ball.

pretty much everything is different when you are in a practice/scrimmage vs live game

I don't have a problem with Palardy. I think everyone is a little concerned because he has been injured. Also, it seemed like he duck-hooked every field goal attempt last year.

We lost to the national champs in 2009 and the Music City Bowl because of poor kicking. Have to improve there. It goes to show also that the margin of error for a win or loss can be small even if you are a huge underdog. Of course we won over a doormat, UAB because they couldn't make their kicks.

I think the field goals have more to do with improvement on the defensive side of the ball than the ineptitude of the offense to finish drives. This also coincides with Bray's production. I believe the D has improved more than anyone is willing to admit.
