PAC 12 Not Expanding ..Link

Slive should get in touch with Oklahoma and Okie St now. Expansion is only going to continue at this point. Take some good teams so you're not forced to settle for leftovers later. Not really big on Mizzou as the fourth, but unless some equitable agreement can be made with Texas, or Slive can pull FSU out of his hat, we may have to settle for them.

Change is going to happen. I know many people are not fond of the idea of super-conferences, but at this point, I think it's inevitable. The SEC needs to position itself to remain THE dominant football conference.

I am not in favor of the expansion. It's hard enough for one of our member schools to go undefeated as it is. Adding other high ranking schools will make that even harder. As it stands now, seems like the only future expanded conference with a chance to go undefeated would be the ACC. Anything that keeps the SEC from going to the NCG would not be good......IMO. I know it's all money driven, but there comes a time when too much expansion hurts the schools.

It seems that 4 X 16 is almost inevitable. If so, "undefeated" won't mean a ticket to the NCG. It will come down to conference championships and a 4 team (or 8 team) playoff run under the umbrella of the 4 conferences instead of the NCAA. The goal isn't to avoid a playoff, it is to avoid having to share all of the playoff revenue with the tag-along schools that vote against things that the big schools want/need.

missouri will be next, moving auburn to the east. this means u t will lose alabama as a geographic opponent to auburn. we then pick up another west team as our common west opponent. i think this is what will happen. hope not but----

Mizzou is not going anywhere right now. Deaton is too tied to the B12 to make a move without the B12 imploding.

Right before Texas A&M officially left the Big 12 to seek membership the SEC had voted not to expand at that time either. Saying everyone was satisfied with staying at 12 teams. Then Texas A&M leaves then we give them the invite. I thought this had something to do with the process of making sure its the Big12 school pursuing the conference and not the other way around. Some type of protection against the Big12 schools filing a lawsuit against us for tampering with a contract if they contacted us first.

SEC satisfied with current alignment, doesn't extend invite to Texas A&M - ESPN

Whats the difference this time did the Pac12 not leave themselves the we are not interested at this time part?

I agree that Slive needs to contact Oklahoma now. If they are willing to break ties with Oklahoma State, they can enter the SEC now. If they aren't willing to break ties, the opportunity might not be there in the future.

NCAA should realize that expansion is the new trend and allow longer regular season schedules to allow room for more conference games.

Simply put, No!

When the SEC expands, the current rules determining opponents will change also.

WE WILL NOT LOSE THE BAMA GAME

no

we expanded to 12 regular season games a few years ago, and all it did was give teams an extra cupcake game

we currently have 8 conference games and 4 nonconference games, all the expansion would do would change those numbers to 9 and 3 respectively...there's no need to expand the schedule

Agreed...rules can be changed. If/when the league expands, rivalries can be protected by going to 4 divisions instead of 2. Or if the 2 division alignment is kept, they could possibly reinstate the rule allowing 2-permanent rivalry games that we had before. I'm sure there are other creative ways to make this happen, whether the league eventually has 13, 14, or 16 teams.

If TV revenue is driving the realignment process, why would the league then allow some of its most attractive TV games (UT-Bama, Florida-LSU, Auburn-Georgia, etc.) to go by the wayside? Doesn't make sense.

I wondered too, but it's different here mainly bc: the pac12 was actually in negotiations with Texas; They asked Texas to split some of its LHN revenue were they to join the conference; Texas wouldn't budge, said try would not; after several failed attempts and debates the pac12 finally gave up on them and simply just told the others "screw it; we're not expanding"

Does this give the SEC a shot with OU now? If the Big 12 doesn't comply with their demands??
