No. 1 interior offensive lineman Max Hiller details ‘great’ multi-day visit to Tennessee

Coatesville (Pa.) five-star offensive lineman Maxwell Hiller returned to Tennessee on Wednesday for a multi-day visit with the Tennessee Volunteers. Following the trip, Hiller went in-depth with Volquest on the visit.

“I mean every time that I go to Tennessee, it is a good time,” Hiller said of the visit. “I felt more comfortable this than I maybe have in the past. That is kind of why I am taking these visits to these final four schools in the spring is literally for comfortability, so that I can really enjoy the OV and find home during those final dates. This visit was basically coming down and getting more comfortable and seeing everybody again, and it was great. I had a good time. The scrimmage was good with a lot of energy. Everything was great.”

The five-star offensive tackle got the opportunity to spend time with Tennessee offensive line coach Glen Elarbee throughout the visit.

“I got to spend time with Coach Elarbee on and off the practice field, which was great,” Hiller said of the Tennessee assistant coach. ” I watched a little bit of film with him and got to see him coach on the field as well as Coach KP, Coach Lab and Coach Phil. They were all great and getting to just watch them and see how they really coach and dive deep into everything that they do.

It was important for Hiller to get time around the players during the visit as well, and he was impressed by what he saw.

“This visit, I felt a lot like a player,” the five-star said. “I got to sit in with all of the players throughout the meeting and everything. It was all amazing and getting to see how the players live on a daily basis and see everything, helps a huge amount. Just really getting to see what it is like at Tennessee as a player was great, and that is really what happened on this visit, which is huge for them and me. I got to spend time with Ed Baker and Gabe (Osenda) and the receivers and corners, and it was all good.”

Hiller plans to return to Knoxville during the month of June for an official visit with the Vols, and he says those visits are just going to be about finding home.

“Honestly, that is just the final piece,” Hiller said. “That is just going to be a gut feeling. Wherever my gut tells me is what I am going to go with because these schools are neck and neck right now. They are so close right now, so if I feel like I am at home, then I am going to commit.”

Hiller is focused in on four schools, including the Vols, Alabama, Florida and Ohio State. So what is it about Tennessee that has them standing out to this point?

“Everything,” Hiller said. “The whole coaching staff and how they do things and run things. Seeing how the players get to manage themselves. Just the relationships I have there with the possible teammates I would have there. Everything plays a huge role with Tennessee. That is kind of the same with all four of the final schools. I feel like they can all get me to the level where I want to be and where I want them to get me to. Another huge thing, Tennessee just hired a new strength and conditioning coach, Coach Owens, D.O., and he just won a national championship with a team that had been one of the lowest winning team in college football, so that is development right there. Seeing him build those guys up to a national championship, I can only imagine what he can do with the players at Tennessee.”

Five-star offensive lineman Maxwell Hiller returned to Knoxville for a multi-day visit on Wednesday. He stayed in town through Tennessee’s scrimmage and he left with a positive review of the Vols. He made it clear to us that Tennessee is very much in the mix of this “neck and neck” battle. He will be back on campus in June for his OV. Florida, Alabama and Ohio State are the three other programs heavily involved here.
