lol I used to wonder what great purpose I was meant to serve that warranted my still being alive despite all the dumbassery. But now, decades beyond all that, I understand that sometimes an idiot that wanders through a minefield unscathed is just an idiot that wandered through a minefield unscathed.

But I’ll take it.

Maybe there is a purpose, a role, in being that eejit who wanders through the minefield mostly unscathed, but acquiring a lot of detritus along the way that really needs to be shed.

Maybe the role is to show others that possibly there’s another way, another path, that might not be perfect, but that does have that option of finding your reason to have been placed on this planet, where you find joy and grace, and there are more good days than bad. (Hey, it could happen, right?)

Or at least to not be a locus of destruction that destroys everyone around us. Because God knows, we have enough of those.

I ended up finding a purpose by finally having kids when I was in my 40s. By then (and even more so now) I had a pretty clear grasp of what was real and what was BS and where I fit into it all, so I feel like I’m much less likely to screw them up than I would have years ago. And I like to think there’s an advantage in there for them in having less transitional parents. Who knows, we’ll see.

If I had had kids in my 20s, I’d be dealing with a lot of remorse right now. And I mean that as specific to me, not toward younger parents in general. I was a particularly late bloomer.

Autotune is cool and the pushback against it was the most old man yelling at clouds moment in recent music history. Who cares if some people use it to conceal a lack of talent. They used it to make music that some people like.

Usher told TPain he ruined the industry and it makes me hate Usher.
