Just wanted to let anyone who may be interested know that OSP is fighting in the main event of UFC's Fight Night on Fox Sports 1 against a legend of the game, Shogun Rua. The fight is about to come on right now. OSP played linebacker for the Vols, and routinely sports orange while walking to the cage, and has even worn a UT beanie when walking out. He loves the Vols, and reps them well. Tune in! Should be a great fight!

Wow! OSP with the first round knockout! Great win, definitely the biggest of his career. Shogun is Brazilian, and the fight was taking place in Brazil. The crowd is absolutely silent and stunned. As soon as the ref called it, OSP ran over to the cameras and yelled something about Knoxville, TN and said he loves it. Way to go OSP!

It certainly was. Such a big win after he turned in a bit of a disappointing performance in his last fight. Shogun is truly one of the most legendary fighters of all time. Shogun is in the twilight of his career, but still, people don't paste him like OSP just did. Excited to see who he gets matched up with next. Definitely going to be climbing closer to the top of the division. He was already ranked 10th, while Shogun was 9th.

EDIT: Sorry, looks like UFC blocked the highlight.

I don't follow this sport very closely. How long before he might fight again?

Really hard to say. Probably depends more on who they want to match him up with than anything. He doesn't have any recovery time so it could be as soon as January. Probably February or March would be my best guess, but there's really no telling in this sport. Like I said, the match-up, as well as the timing of what event they want to put him on, is what will determine it.

Makes sense. I appreciate you letting us know about the fight tonight. If you can do the same next time, with a bit more notice, that'd be awesome. :)

Oops, didn't mean to misquote him. I was pretty surprised and hyped at the way it ended.

Shogun is 1-4 in his last fights. I think it's definitely time to hang up the gloves. Dude stood no chance. He tried to swing at OSP and his legs fell from under him, match over. Pretty awful showing even for UFC standards.

Yeah, I'd like to see him retire because of all of the wear on him, hence my twilight comment. He's, had a rough stretch, but he wasn't losing to scrubs. Dropped the decision to Gus, who is one of the top 3 fighters in the world. Lost that flukey fight to Chael (first submission loss of his career, by someone who isn't anywhere close to his level in BJJ. Even Chael said it was lucky). Then he KO'd Te Huna I believe it was in the first round. His last fight before tonight was to Dan Henderson, another legend, and he got caught in the 3rd round by probably the hardest puncher in the history of the division after dominating him the first two rounds and nearly stopping him a couple of times. Shogun is definitely on the decline, but this was still a quality win for OSP, IMO. Shogun is a former champion, and he hasn't been losing to scrubs.

Haha I was just watching the fights, and looking at VN per the usual (much to the chagrin of my Vol loving wife, "Oh, looking at VN, what a surprise"), and thought, "Oh, no one made a thread about this, guess I should mention it". I'll be sure to give more notice next time :) Oh, yeah, this fight was only scheduled last week. Shoguns original opponent was injured, and OSP stepped up on short notice and took the fight, which makes the win even more impressive. Fighters typically get several weeks to prepare for a fight/have a training camp.
