Overrated/Underrated

Overrated is L. Little because he feasted against the likes of middle of the road Alabama teams, but disappeared against UGA and Fla. Carl Pickens made a living of dropping TD passes against Bama, National Champ to be Colorado, and No. 1 ranked ND.

if you are going to insult carl pickens on this board, do us all a favor and go play in street first.

Rex Grossman was easily the best QB in 2001.

There is definitely an argument to be made for that. He had a legit shot at the Heisman in '01. But I doubt there are many takers for the "Rex Grossman is better than Carson Palmer" argument in 2002.

I know Rex Grossman hasn't gotten his NFL wings yet, but the man was awesome in college. His final year (junior year?) he was the best QB in college football. I don't call that overrated.

I dont call throwing 22 Tds and 17 interceptions in 2002 the best qb in college football.Your probably referring to his sophomore year where he averaged 350 plus yards a game and was runner up to the heisman. Statistically he was amazing, but stats only take you so far.

The reason I asked whether he was over or under is because durng that season BJ left the Florida game quite early and Florida beat them. He didn't play in the UT game, either. And Auburn going into the Florida game was, I believe, undefeated and ranked at the top.

There was some commentary at the time that BJ took himself out of those games for his own reasons. Seems he had a leg bruise of some sort, but there was always a question. And if you ask Auburn fans, as great as BJ was, with what happened with the NFL and the baseball contract he took I think there is a smidge of wondering what that was all about.

auburn was undefeated and ranked #1 when tennessee defeated them that year(1985), 38-20.

That's why I emphasized 2001. Once Zook took over there was a noticable drop. Carson Palmer and Brad Banks were definitely better in 2002 than Grossman.

Bear was a very sick old man and did very little coaching in his last 2 seasons and died less than 1 month after his last game, a win over Illinois in the Independence Bowl.

bear was also a sick old man his first few seasons when, he couldn't beat general neyland.

:search:....no, i guess not. i just think eric zeir was good, not great. i kind of like that james jackson kid form the mid 80's though.

I'm pretty sure they had to replace whole rows at Sanford Stadium in Athens from where people squeezed the bleachers so hard every time James Jackson dropped back to pass.

i know, it was a little try at sarcasm.

I was hoping. :)

When you try to name great UGA QBs of the past 30 years though, once you get past Greene and Zeier you're forced to say some pretty nutty things like Bobo, Belue, Lastinger etc. Heck, DJ Shockley might be #3.

I feel like DJ Shockley might have been able to get the Bulldogs over the hump the way Green couldn't. Honestly, if Shockley didn't get hurt in 2005 the Bulldogs might have gone undefeated.

I know that Shockley was back for the Auburn loss, but it was a really close game and he might have still been hurting from his injury. Anyway, I thought 2005 UGA was better than 2004 UGA. The West Virginia loss.... well that was just ridiculous. I think Richt did a pretty poor job on that one.
