Yeah...but Clemson was a reason they were 11th. They smoked them! Like every quality team on their schedule.

Know what chaps my ass? The fact that the 98 team was underestimated, and won a national championship. However, we have brilliant fans who would rather win a pissing for distance contest over meaningless pre-season rankings and prognostications. I did not realize there was a trophy for that kind of thing. In your eyes it must be a dandy.

Instead of bringing home a title, some of you chase the respect of a bunch of talking head sports personalities. And if they bet money on their preseason guesses, every last one of these wastes of life would be in Chapter 11.

Yet you want them to declare Tennessee national champions before the season starts. To say that is stupid is an insult to stupid people. It's no wonder other fan bases make fun of Tennessee. Thanks to this type of thinking, it is well deserved.

This season needs to start. Badly.

And Northwestern had the 12th ranked scoring defense last season, and that was after UT hung 45 on them. Very misleading based on their schedules.

With the talent and depth that we have why wouldn't we be overhyped. We beat our bowl opponent by like 50 points last year, why shouldn't we be overhyped. I think we are going to win the east this year no doubt about it. Let the haters hate and eat crow later in the year while there trying to jump on the bandwagon

I love statistics. But this is an illustration of how they can be deceptive. ASU only played 4 teams with a winning record and went 2-2 against them.

Vs FBS teams with a winning record, ASU allowed 44 more ypg. Remember 3 (Ark St, Ga Southern, and Ohio) of those opponents were mid-major opponents. Only 3 teams out of 11 Sunbelt teams finished with a winning record. ASU lost to Ark St while giving up over 500 yds. They beat one dimensional GSU.

Clemson didn't need a lot of O because they dominated field position. None of the others were great offensive teams once you factor in competition levels.

In an interesting outlier, Troy who finished 4-8 and 102nd in total O nationally.... put 450 yds on ASU losing 44-41.

Offensively, ASU scored 41 ppg overall but only 25 ppg vs the 4 teams they played with a winning record.

While working out the other night, I watched ASU's bowl game vs Ohio. I don't think I've ever seen a slower team than Ohio.


Summary: They looked good in a conference made up of really bad teams then struggled with a team in their bowl that they should have beaten by 30 pts.

Well in his defense, he's not really paid to be accurate. Kanell, like most analysts-turned-hosts, is paid to create interest. He doesn't give two craps about UT, UF, or UGA. All he knows is he's the only one picking UGA for Atlanta (and the playoff!). By going against the grain he is able to generate debate on message boards, Twitter, etc.

He is learning from the Skip Bayless, Cowherd, Finebaum models. Pissing people off drives ratings more than pandering to them. Trying to be accurate is fools gold anyway. Too many variables in play.

It'll be very vanilla. Play sound football and get out with the win. Score doesn't matter to me unless we are making a lot of mistakes

I feel like App. State is a much better team than UMass and would probably beat them. That's just my opinion though, especially after seeing them play Vandy.

So a 34-20 win over UMass would definitely be a cause for concern. 34-20 over App State all depends on how the game played out and if there were many garbage time touchdowns.

We were pretty hyped up in 2012............but have a far better pool of talent than the 2012 Roster.

My thoughts are we run basic schemes, attempt to take a lead with athleticism and power. Possibly a flash of a trick or two just for the fans. I am hoping we can hold off at least until the Florida game however I truly do not know much about VA. Tech. but I hope we can just basically play "smash mouth" until September 24th and then go Ape Doo on the field.

We are under hyped. We should be in playoff discussion. Name 4 teams better than Tennessee going into the year, here's a hint, you can't.

For a game like this I'm not going to be looking at the final score as much as the plays during the game. Do they have a receiver that continually gets behind our corners? Are our safeties out of position? How much push does the O-line get? Is Dobbs running for his life? How much pressure does the D line get?

Team 120 should compete for the SEC and the play-offs.

We're all worried about injuries and you can't predict them. They will happen. Let's hope none are serious and we can overcome them all.

The weaknesses last year were receiver coaching and Saturday coaching. These cost us a spot in the SECCG.

Butch never owned his Saturday coaching mistakes but he did do something about them every game. I don't like that he had to do some OJT on our sidelines, but at least he learned the ropes unlike the other guy still looking for Rommel. This culminated in the game tweaks against Northwestern, a top-15 team that couldn't live with us from the coin flip.

We need one receiver to step up and be a big play receiver. National championship teams have: a great running game, a top-five d-line, and one go to receiver. We only need one and we could pick from three or four. It looks like Josh Smith will be the possession receiver we need. We need someone to be the go-to receiver who take the ball away from defenders in the air or who can break it to the house on any catch.

What worries me is that Z has not shown any ability to develop that receiver and, moreover, the receiver philosophy doesn't lend itself to that championship model.

Injuries happen and may cost us a game. Team 120 has a great running game, a top-5 d-line. We have the bonus of having a dual-threat, game manager, low turnover QB which is the big intangible on championship teams. Saturday coaching improved every week (although I wish it didn't require the first half of Team 119 to get right).

We need Z to step-up big time and deliver us that go-to receiver.
