Overall Team Speed in 2018

Not a strength IMO. We have to get back to being Wide Receiver U, with equally speedy DB and Linebacker units.

We used to have elite speed, which happened to coincide with some of the most winning teams in our lifetimes.

Check out the video if you want to see real speed.

I think we have the athletes to be really good at linebacker and in the secondary not so much the Defensive line.
On offense OL is a disaster. I think we are good at RB and could be ok at WR if the QB can get them the ball which is difficult because the OL is so weak and offers terrible protection.

To answer your question , I say time will tell. The team has for a while not look really fast to me. Speed can not be taught, quickness can.

As for how speed AND quickness can play into a team's success;
speed and quickness can make up for a lot of short comings in my humble opinion.

Speed is there.

What's more important is being in position to make plays.

WR
Callaway
Taylor
Palmer
Williams fast but is he good?

RB
Chandler
Fils-Aime
Banks

TE
??

LB
Bituli
Kirkland
Taylor
Peterson
Sapp
All fast

CB
Byrd
Osborne
Shamburger
Lebruzza
Baily fast but is he good?

S
Warrior
Jackson
Flowers
Norwood

Based on stats and history the OL is bad. Based on eternal optimism it has to be better. They are too many highly recruited players (other big schools wanted) to miss on them all. If fans believe Pruitt is the man to coach up this team, why can’t the OL be improved just as much as any other position group. System, technique, coaching, or strength. Take your pick, but these guys were respected in HS and all of them aren’t misses.

You nailed it, I was so sick of seeing defenders out of position all last season. We lost to florida on a long passing TD where the entire left side was not defended.

The thing is that big and fast almost always beats small and fast. We need to get bigger and faster at DL, LB and OL.

We have talent. Will be interested to see how Fitzgerald develops the S&C

yep, especially the O-Line I hope he can make them into more of what Bama players look like. On TV those guys especially the O&D line look like 4 or to 6 year NFL Vets.

Strength or Weakness?

Team speed was terrible under Dooley. Butch made the effort to bring in speed. Maybe at the expense of size and toughness. Now CJP going to try and bring in speedy and big/tough players like he had at Bama and UGA.

Size, speed, depth, quickness, durability, football IQ, all weaknesses. 0-8 happened on the field, not the sidelines. Let's revisit in a couple of years and see if improvements have taken place.

On the field and not on the sidelines??

Butch was on the sidelines.

Anyway, NEXT season we should see improvement. There is still a significant amount of talent left from the two stellar Butch Jones classes. And they are at least 3 year guys or more. They're not babies iow.

Pruitt is a good coach. And i think he has surrounded himself with other good coaches.
