Over/Under Cincinnati Fans Show Up?

I'm a UC student coming down for the game. I know there is a UC bus trip scheduled for students, as well as a large amount of other groups coming down with fraternities/sororities and etc.

What are some things that I need to see? Traditions or places to tailgate and have a good time are mostly what I'm looking for out of this trip. Me and my brothers are pretty pumped to enjoy the SEC atmosphere.

They can beat us, so i suspect many of their fans will make the trip. more than vandy, or mississippi state.

Pyro - 50 bucks will definitely get you a good seat. You should be able to get a good one for 40 or under, depending on how you define good.

Thanks bro I appreciate it. Good seats to me are where I can identify a player without looking at the jumbotron lol. I only get to go a game a year so im willing to drop a little extra on the seats.

Again, they only drew 23k for a HOME game, there's zero chance they bring 10k for a road game.

I believe the allotment they were given was 5,000 and they sold 3,000 and returned the other 2k.

I think anywhere between 5-10k. The reason no one showed up for APSU was because it was APSU. Even Big East fans scoff at games like that.

Best way to have a good time at a Vol game for an opposing fan is to wander around down at the Vol Navy several hours before kick off, be reasonably charming and friendly, and carry a bottle of Jack Daniels to share with the folks you'll meet.

Watching the football team and band walk into the stadium a couple hours ahead of time is traditional and never fails to elicit a "HOLY SHAT" from first-timers about how many people wearing orange there can possibly be in the whole wide world.

Eat more lunch than you think you'll want before heading onto campus. It's a pain to deal with food once you get down there. Unless you're down sharing your whiskey with the Vol Navy, in which case they'll probably feed you.

Have a great trip!

Always glad to have folks from Cincinnati & elsewhere in Ohio (well, minus Cleveland) down. I was born in Cincy but grew up in Dayton. Have a lot of family in Cincy still though.

The Vol Walk is a really cool tradition to check out, I didn't catch it myself until last year, but I plan to try to catch it again this Saturday. I'd definitely recommend getting into your seats in time to catch the Pride of the Southland's pre-game show and the Vols running through the T. For me, that and Rocky Top are the best traditions of a UT gameday.

Let me clear a few things up for those wondering:

Yes we only drew 23,000+ for the home opener. That is slightly down from the attendance at the last three home openers against low level opponents. UC fans who are honest with themselves will make no bones about it- the UC football program has been around for a long time (124 years) but there is little tradition for the program to hold itself up upon.

The past ten years or so have helped. The resurgence started in the late 90's with Rick Minter and got progressively larger culminating thus far in two BCS bowl appearances in 2008 and 2009. There have been times that the UC fan base has shown it's potential (the 10,000+ UC brought to Pitt for the 2009 de facto Big East Championship game; the 30,000+ they brought to the Sugar Bowl in 2009 and the 58,000 in attendance at Paul Brown Stadium for the Oklahoma game last year) but Cincinnati is a pro sports town and a band wagon town. To garner the fans the team has to win. Coming off a disappointing 4-8 season last year it was obvious ticket sales would be down.

With all of that said- the Tennessee game is drawing a lot of interest from fans up here and Vol fans should expect anywhere from 5,000-7,500 fans if I was to venture a guess. Neyland is one of the most tradition filled, exciting atmospheres in College Football and I know that's a big draw for a lot of folks.

Better question... how long before those 8k cincy fans get sick of hearing Rocky Top over and over ;)

I'm a fan. Definitely one of the better fight songs in the country, imo.

Now if we were talking about OSU's... or Hail to the Victors at Michigan... or ND's... then I'd be sick after about half a chorus. :stop:

Thanks for the suggestions for what to do on gameday. What are the rules regarding tailgating? Is it open container in Tennessee? Not trying to get a ticket for anything this weekend.

I've been to a lot of OSU games and they are certainly a great atmosphere, but I'm excited to see Neyalnd Stadium.

Also to clarify only having 23K fans at our first home game: Students who live on campus haven't moved in yet, classes don't begin until Sept. 21.

I hope Makers Mark is a suitable substitute for Jack.

Dry campus, but as long as you drink out of Solo cups and keep the bottles out of plain sight you'll be fine.

I just checked their athletic office ticket website and they don't show any available. Could also be because they returned what they didn't sell to UT.

But, in any case. I think they have a good showing as the trip from Cincinnati is only about 3 - 3 1/2 hour car ride. I am going to set the bar at about 7,500 show up.

Thoughts?

I don't know about 7,500, but I don't think the UC ticket office returned many if any. Of course, I don't know how many we had.

I think there will be 4,000 or so, anyway.

Never read so much truth in one post before. :salute:
