Is it an advantage or disadvantage to have an "outsider" coach when it comes to a rivalry game? This is the first year since 1969 we will be coached in this game by someone who wasn't a graduate of one of the schools. Does it help, hurt, or is it a non-factor?
I think it can be good OR bad. Obviously, you like to have someone in there who can speak to the rivalries and that can understand the importance of the history. However, I think that with the old regime, sometimes that caused everyone to get too wound up and play tight or coach conservatively.
I think that it's kind of refreshing to have a new staff that can hopefully play a little loose this year. Trust me, they will very quickly understand that differences in UF and UA week vs. all the rest.
I think that this is the reason Saban declined to allow the Vols to wear the orange jerseys. He wants this game to be about a co-#1 ranked team vs. a 3-3, 17 point road underdog. Why make it anything more by playing up the traditional rivalry angle if you are Saban? He's not going to make his team believe the Vols are any more dangerous by doing so and he may even turn a few of them off if they think he's blowing smoke about the game's importance.
It is J.E. Blevins in fact. The initals are JEB, but I've never used that for a handle. No one usually recognizes 'Blevins' as a last name and it's funny to see them guess.
I wasn't making fun of anybody. There's just so many posters here, what are the chances of two jeb's? Then it made me think of Jed Clampet after I saw Volunteerhillbilly.
