Agree. Also, I would think it would be difficult for Steele to hire competent assistant coaches not knowing if he's going to be the future head coach. If you go the interim route.. How in the world do you recruit? Not knowing if *any* staffer recruiting you is going to be there when you set foot on campus. That's a path to failure.
Great read. This pretty much sums up how I feel about this whole situation. If the NCAA drops the hammer on UT, it will set a bad precedent and no one will ever self report or self investigate. I would add another group of coaches, though. The "semi-successful but can't get past the first couple of rounds of the playoffs so they were fired" NFL coaches.
Steele will be interim coach for a year while they find a coach.
They won’t rush to hire another Dooley. They learned their lesson there.
All other desirable options will not want this job at this time. Perhaps it will be different in 12/21.
I got a real good explanation about that once at an instructor meeting as to why they changed it. It actually makes a lot of sense, and it rewards those that are more 'valuable' to the company.75k round trip from knoxville to flint? that's about the standard award rate with DL these days
After thinking further, it’s going to be Steele.
What new head coach is going to take the job and in addition to all of the other mess, is going to be told who is on his staff

Suppose you are a businessman that has to fly to CLT every once in awhile, but doesn't have a set time, and it might be spur of the moment. As we all know, airline seats 'spoil' the moment the flight pushes back, so the airlines have to maximize their revenue last minute by charging more for the remaining seats. (There is the volume argument, but it doesn't apply here). So you walk up and buy a $500 ticket from ATL to CLT... about 220 miles. Now... Traveler #2 has a month to make up his mind and buys a $200 ticket from ATL to LAX which is about 1900 miles. Which passenger is more 'valuable'? I get the mileage argument. But I also realize that it is a business, and they are rewarding those that spend the most.
Lets wait and see what the punishment is first before we make this determination. I have a feeling we won't make a HC hire until we know this anyway. I think the AD hire will happen pretty quickly. The HC hire may take a little longer.
The punishment is irrelevant to this point.
If I am Coach X, I want my staff. So, I don’t want to take the job and be forced to accept other staff I don’t want.
Even if there is no ncaa mess, it’s still a mess
