UT would have a better chance against some slow big-10 team in Tampa than Va Tech. Plus, tampa's a better bowl city than atlanta.

I'm way in the minority, but I wanted to be in the New Years spotlight, in the crucial recruiting territory of Florida, and be looking at a sure thing win against the crappy Big 11, but apparently the prevailing thought is a crappier bowl against a better opponent is what's desireable.

They both have their pros and cons but in the end, I feel strongly the CFA bowl is the better fit.

PROS for the CFA Bowl:
  • Facing a ranked, perennially respected team in Va Tech
  • PRIMETIME and the ONLY game on that night
  • We're in ATL, a recruiting hotbed as well
  • Playing in controlled climate conditions
  • More UT fans will travel given the MUCH shorter distance, and the overall attendance will be greater, thus a better atmosphere
  • We'll have a chance to end the damn curse prior to the beginning of our annual visits there in years to come for SECCG's

CONS for the CFA Bowl (w/ respect to the OutCrap Bowl):
  • Not on a "big" network, non-cable (CBS, NBC, ABC, Fox)
  • Obviously not a "New Years Day" Bowl
  • Not smack in the middle a FL for recruiting exposure
  • Won't be 67-70 degrees outside leading up to the game
  • A more "losable" game vs. Va Tech as opposed to vs. Northwestern or Wisky

The way I see it is we should be feel lucky and proud to play in either bowl. If we make the field goal against KY we probably get beat. Only down by 3 they were conservative and settled on field goal and ot. Down by 6 they probably score td and we play in Liberty Bowl (now that is disappointing). That being said and all what if's aside- Lets beat VT.

They really should change the Outhouse Bowl to the Goody's Powder Bowl. The New Year's Day Bowl crowd is trying to get over their hangover to watch the good games on Jan 1st(8am on the west coast). Just like in the regular season, the early games are usually less relevant. But the Peach Bowl is the marquee game of the day. Put TN vs VT in it and it will definitely be a more prestigious bowl this year than the Outhouse. We would have more viewers and more of a national spotlight. The New Years Day argument is a thing of the past. We would have the first good bowl game. Yes, there is a chance we could lose, but there is a chance we could lose to Wisconsin, too. We are 1-1 in the Outhouse in our last two appearances.

Ok? Good reason I guess?

I've been to the Outback Bowl both times we were there a few years back. It was awful going out for NYE and then having to roll out of bed for some decent tailgating for an 11 am game. I would much rather be in the primetime game on NYE against a highly ranked opponent then celebrate the win as the ball drops and champagne pops

Can you list 5 reasons why the Outback is better than Atl?

The only reason I can think of is being in the middle of FL for recruiting, but Atlanta is as big, if not bigger to recruiting for us. Of course I am jaded in this argument because I lived about half hour from Tampa for two years. I hated every second of it. Tampa has, hands down, the worst drivers in the USA, is the lightning capital of the world, doesn't have the shopping, etc. that ATL does, and Raymond James doesn't hold a candle to the Georgia Dome. I could go on for hours but I won't.

I agree with you especially about GA being a recruiting hot bed as well. Even if we do lose to VTech I think it would be a much more respectable loss than if we loss to Wisky

Yea, it's sort of like a win/win vs Va Tech and a lose/lose vs Wisky.

We beat Va Tech, it's a BIG win vs a ranked opponent, if you lose, you were supposed to lose anyway, based on rankings.... It's obviously not a win, but it's not exactly a loss either.

We beat wisky, big deal, they're boring and we just beat them a couple years ago. We lose to them, it's a HUGE setback and leave a bad taste in what was a decent rebound year for the Vols.

Bottom-line the risk vs reward factor favors the matchup against Va Tech much more than it does against Wisky or N.Western

I agree! Kiffin and staff wanted to be in Florida for all the exposure. The game gets exposure, but the local media covers the team thoroughly throughout the time they are there. The team is personalized, and therefore, the Florida high school players have a better chance to get a real good look at us.

The game is important, but the exposure and recruiting is even more important.

War... Eagle, fly down the field.
Ever to conquer, never to yield.
War... Eagle, fearless and true.
Fight on, you orange and blue.
Go! Go! Go!
On to vict'ry, strike up the band.
Give 'em hell, give 'em hell;
Stand up and yell, Hey! War...Eagle win for Auburn,
Power of Dixie Land!

(P.S.- I would rather Auburn be in the CFA bowl so i could go)

People on anything other than central time probably would not even be awake for the Outback Bowl.

What are the chances we're ranked in the top 25 next year if we beat VaTech? What are the chances if we beat some crappy Big Ten team? I'll take a quality opponent in a better time slot.
