The coaching search is in the hands of Coach Fulmer. So throwing out all these names no matter how far fetched or stupid is pretty pointless. Don't you think? Eventually the name of every college coach will be suggested

Fulmer and Haslem aren't buds I hear. If that is true I feel great about his search.

I read on SI(I think) that they are very close. Would make sense, HC has to pal around with boosters for money. That's a lot of golf games in Fulmers years. Although I read another that said it soured when Haslam didn't save his job.

Who knows.

I'm worn out with all the names. I admit I'm uneducated on other schools and conferences. Season Tickets to Neyland mean that I don't watch many games on TV on Saturdays. I'd never heard of Brohm, NC State coach, and a few others. Felt like Currie was drawing names out of a hat. These threads are still being started, but I'm ignoring them now. Trust Fulmer to do better.

Weird.. I'm calm after that presser. It's like a patient being in cardiac arrest and the folks in the ER stabilized the patient.

As long as Fulmer isn't a yes man for Haslem I'm good.

I really hope Fulmer brings the pirate to Knoxville.

I do too, but I don't think it will happen. I just hope Fulmer is up to this challenge. I'm afraid that a conventional choice from the 2nd tier coaches who are left will leave us in the same place 3-5 years from now.

Regardless of Fulmer's choice for HC, this Vol train is in the station for repairs for at least 2 years, maybe 3 or 4:banghead2:

I like that someone new is handling the search...but it appears it has come to a screeching halt and quite honestly we don't have all day. We can cite examples of schools that wait...til January...whatever and still get a good coach. Only one I've heard of and that's Saban I think...and that's a good one...but I think there should be a sense of urgency. Rumors have stopped and activity has seemingly stopped and I don't think it's becuz they have their guy and are just waiting to announce it.

Now, somebody can pull out an obligatory "patience grasshopper", but there needs to be some urgency.

Haslam*

They are NOT "thick" as some have claimed. I am unsure why people say they are. The Haslam's allowed/helped Fulmer to be fired, he never has forgiven them for that. Then he has watched them destroy the program he devoted his life to.

You are quite correct. It was Haslam who told Mike Hamilton to fire Fulmer in 2008, and Haslam fronted the $$$ to pay Fulmer's buyout. Also, while Fulmer was HC, Haslam and Hamilton had him handcuffed $$$-wise regarding coordinators and assistant coaches, so Fulmer was limited in who he could afford to hire... especially after Cut left. So, no, I would say that Fulmer and Haslam are not exactly the best of friends.

Fulmer and Haslam are close. The only difference is Fulmer is close with other big boosters too and I believe won't be a puppet. He's a way to bring that "booster house divided" closer. Maybe he has Ill feelings towards Haslam with the firing and Currie hiring but he also loves Tennessee and as much as we talk about how Haslam needs to go and shouldn't have a hand in this coaching search, that's just not realistic. He's important financially and by looking at all of these buyouts, he will be important. I think it just evens the playing field with what the other boosters want too in regards to having Fulmer. My only fear is Fulmer will go the Buddy route and we'll get a coach Cutt, Randy Sanders, Tee Martin type hire. Praying Fulmer swings for the fences.

One thing is for sure, Fulmer will find out real quick the temperament of college football has changed in his near decade away. #VolTwitter awaits his hiring decision.

I'm pretty sure he has kept up with whats going on in college football. You just don't leave cold turkey. The other sports like basketball, baseball and women's sports may be in trouble.

Everyone else was starting their Kiffens, Grudens, Leachs, so forth and so on why not one of these?
