Its sad, and sad that you're defending it, Why have them then? Most of these kids are 18/19 years old, paying their own way through school, attending summer school to try and get noticed in the summer.......It costs them a fortune and they bust their ***** to show up and get treated like ****. Speaks well to the character of our coaches. Here's a question for you. Out of those 85 scholarship players, how many give their all or bust their ***** to earn what they have been given??

Your question is absolutely irrelevant. The only question that matters is how many of those walkons actually play in a critical game situation? Now how many scholarship players do? The answer to that question is what matters to division I programs as there job is based on winning. How do you think Saban treats his walkons? And all that you go onto list that they do, guess what? They chose to do that. They can drop out at any moment, but they chose not too so the pluses must outweigh the minuses.

Reveiz started as a walk on with another coach and got a scholarship.

Which is a sign of how far our program had fallen. We want to be in position where a player the caliber of reviez never started and never received a scholarship. I appreciate for Reviez for all that he did, but he is not the caliber of player that we need if we want to be an elite program.

Also, find where I was defending it? I just stated that is how it is at major D1 programs and the rationale behind it.

It's not an irrelevant question. The University spends money on these guys and they should be accountable. Wasn't it Poole that was benched by Kiffen for not wanting to go in with 2min in the 4th quarter because that wasn't good enough for him..........put a walk on in there and see what happens....It's really not rocket science, you're on the same page as the coaches so I'll educate you.....

Solve this equasion.....( Defense ) A walk on lb that runs a 4.9 and plays with guts and no fear and can tackle and has a great ability to read a play VS a scholly lb , a 4* that runs a 4.6 but cant read a run play and react before the snap..........who gets the play???

Nobody is forcing any of them to play.

walk ons have to make the team........they don't just get to join...I'm sure when they make the team that it's not followed by a speech of how they are going to waste thier time and be treated like ****. That is the point of this converstation in case you missed it

I know for a fact that walkons under Dooley who have performed well in practice on scout team are still not allowed to dress for home games. They bust their arse in practice and get nothing from this coach. Previous post was correct, scholarship players notice it and don't like it at all. Somebody will no doubt chime in about how Dooley treated the walkons for the bowl game in Nashville... pathetic.

Butt hurt and you can only dress out so many

Life sucks and you get over it

Yes, but once the figure that out, they can quit. It's not like anything negative is going to happen to them if they do. Bottom line, it's the way that things are, and not just in football. Society is comprised of classes and the lower classes are treated like ****.

What happens, is you have a walkon in there for the last two minutes of a game that is practically over. You still fail to show why walkons deserve all the attention that you think they should get. Here is a hint, if there was a reason then successful coaches would've started paying them more attention. Bottomline, if the coach felt like they were somebody worth the attention he would have recruited them from the outset. And I can't help but laugh at the fact that you think you are "educating" me :eek:lol:. Also, your "equation" is unanswerable on paper, there are more than a couple of variables in a players play. The answer is whoever performs the best and most consistent in practice. Toney played well in practice last year and subsequently got a shot in the game.

How many walkons have been all americans? Heisman Trophy winners? NFL Draft picks? Yes, in the heirarchy of college football players they are lower on the totem pole.

Like I said, nobody is forcing them to play. Everybody knows who gets preferred treatment.

I did not say they desirved all this attention, just the same ammount. A team is one unit and should never be separated out in classes. Just because you have no answer to my question doesnt mean their isnt one so on a pass, fail scale you fail. Carter is racking up some pretty good numbers so I hope he gets a shot!! Oh and by the way...his numbers probably come from 10 or 12 plays while the scholly players get about 40

Have you ever played a sport on a competitive level where the #1 team got a big trophy and the last place team got invited to the ceremony as their reward?

If not, you really shouldn't be having this conversation.

Yet you only listed two of the thousands of walkons a year in the past 50 years of NFL playing time that made it to the big league.

Even google couldn't find you more than 5.

The real world isn't like Rudy, the REAL rudy wasn't like rudy. Stop dreaming.

It's like saying you have the choice in a harvard grad and a roane state grad for a position at your company. the choice is easy.
