It would certainly be a poor indicator. I know that I wouldn't agree to work under those conditions.

All kidding aside, for some reason I have a gut feeling he will shine in this situation. We shall see.

I have that feeling as well. Dooley, as a lawyer, seems well equipped to handle a situation like this one. Only time will tell.

If a broad brush gets utilized here to either dismiss everyone with no regard for individual actions, or if is used to sweep as much under the rug as possible, then this whole thing is likely to come unhinged and wind up a pile of burning wreckage on the bottom of a cliff.
One size fits all punishments never work out well.

As one of Dooley's harshest critics, I'm very interested to watch this situation play out. If he's going to be true to what he has said almost ad nauseum, this shouldn't be about what the police does or doesn't do in the way of charging people. If Dooley is satisfied that certain guys were drinking underage and then participated in gang beating of a defenseless person, his previous words make his course of action clear. However, as I said when Pearl was dealing with the New Year's Day Mess, he shouldn't listen to the Bob Hodges and John Penningtons of the world and boot people simply to "send a message." I'll say this: If Dooley handles what is an obviously serious matter for a program on tenuous ground aleady well, I'll be far more inclined to to believe I might have misjudged the guy.

So your saying that if he kicks them all off the team, and in the process causes us to lose even more games, you'll start liking the guy?

The decision has nothing to do with winning or losing games. It has to do with staying true to what you say. One of my main issues with Dooley is that I find him to be pious and phony. If he gets rid of guys on principle, to the detriment of his team's talent level, he'll prove me wrong on that.

Hopefully he'll be strict, but fair. As an Oregon fan...we had some issues with the law earlier in the year, so I know how you guys probably feel. Disappointed, upset, maybe even angry.

Hopefully Dooley will establish himself as a guy that knows how to deal with these issues. Good luck.

So far, so good. Looks like Myles has been dismissed, and Greg King and Marlon Walls indefinitely suspended.

I think most of Dooley's critics will be impressed if he rises to this challenge.

I have been criical of Dooley (his dad, and the very thought of us becoming like Bama) but was impressed when I heard about the fax sent to USC. I will be moving more into his direction if he handles this with class, and may even get on board

What do you think so far hat?
Myles left him no choice. I'm going to make the assumption that Walls and King had faced prior internal discipline. If they were told not to offend again and still decided that hanging out in a sewer like Bar Knoxville was a good idea, they're too dumb to deserve a scholarship.

Damn Hat, what you said actually made sense, I was thinking along those lines, that this could be a defining moment for Dooley and the Vol football program, not because of what happened but the way it is dealt with. Just a gut feeling here but I think you will be satisfied with the way he handles it.

Solid take Hat.

I hope he does right for each situation. Sounds like he is off to a good start by letting Myles go. Can't justify much else in his situation.

So, if hat[] gets on board the Dooley train, I guess the rest of you will join hands and start singing Kumbaya on Vol Nation?

The bigger question is how you will react when the dismissals cost us a couple of wins in the fall. Don't get me wrong, I am all for the strong discipline, but don't fool yourselves--it is another step back for the short-term competitiveness of this program.

Short term competitiveness already looks dreadful. In this situation, I just want to see him make his own decisions and not make decisions based on what pleases the fan base.

I think Dooley should be held to a high standard regarding how he deals with this situation due to him having a legal background. The crap has now hit the fan and it will be interesting to see how he handles this baptism under fire. Hopefully he hits the ground running.

Why don't you give us all your learned opinion on how this whole affair should be handled.

The W column was going to be poor this fall regardless of this incident.

Dooley has already shown more b-lls in this situation than Fulmer showed in his entire tenure.

First off, all I remember about the "New Years Mess" was you writing that Pearl was gone and rejoicing and revelling in that supposed fact. The level-headed thing that you might have written totally eludes my memory...

Dooley should get the facts together quickly and dismiss everyone that hit back except those that it can be surmised were reponding in self defense. If you hit, you gotta sit...

Then you may need to find that thread and re-read it.

You mean we may not go to the Grand Ole Opry Bowl?
