I know that the big three for us include Alabama, Florida, and Georgia (maybe in that order, some would put Florida over Alabama). But what about for those guys. Where do we fit on their list.

I am guessing Alabama's top rival is Auburn and then us.

Florida's top rivals maybe Georgia or FSU and then us.

UGA? Not sure. Maybe Florida, UT, and then GTech in that order.

Bama's chief rival is Auburn.
Florida's is FSU and then UGA.
UGA's is UF and probably GAtech barely over us.

I know UK hates us the most in football. But the fact that we aren't on the top list of our rivals is an indicator of our lack of relevance lately. This will all change soon!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Go VOLS. I love it when my beloved Vols are HATED.

I felt that UF in the 1990s hated us more than UGA. Not so much these days.

No doubt, UT-UF was THE GAME for the SEC in 1990's and in the early part of this decade.

UGA beating us in 2000 was a monumental win for them. As for Florida, their rivalry with UT really took off when Spurrier was hired. Lane Kiffin seems on track to add some fuel to that fire. If he gets a couple of wins in the next few years, it'll be a lot more serious.

it means half feel 1 way and half feel the other. Have you never heard that?

I'd say you are dead wrong. Bama fans HATE Auburn. That rivalry is our version of the Michigan/Ohio State rivalry. It's the most spirited in the South. Auburn is their chief rival and they remember it all year long.

that's fine but it's closer than many think. I spend xmas in Birmingham most years with a few bammer alums and they definitely want a UT win. Don't discount the hatred CPF brewed up down there

Yeah, no offense meant, PJ, but I've been on SEC boards and the hate that Bama fans have for Auburn and vice versa is unlike anything I've ever seen. Sure they want a UT win. We're a rival, but Auburn is way out in front.

The Iron Bowl is probably the most heated rivalry in the country. OSU/Michigan, Army/Navy, ..etc are the only ones close.

message boards are such a small representation. Wear a UT shirt down there and see the reaction you get. It's actually surprising to see the evil looks.

And seriously, how many bammers can actually operate a computer and get onto the intrawebs? The state of Alabama is the sole reason AOL still exists :)

I get the same reaction when I wear my UT gear in Atlanta. Sure they hate us, but the rivalry is bigger to us than it is to them. It's Auburn. Trust me. Nowhere near 50/50.

I understand but based on many years of personal experience I could never say it's "nowhere near"

I think the comparisons b/t Bama-Aub and Bama-UT aren't really relevant. Of course the Iron Bowl is Bama's biggest rivalry, and it should be. They live with each other every day. However, the UT game is an old rivalry in its "purest" form, if that makes sense. For many fans of each school before the past decade of off-field bickering, the UA-UT rivalry represented everything that was RIGHT about southern football in autumn, and I believe it soon will again. All that said, I once heard a Bama fan say "we hate auburn cause we have to...we hate Tennessee cause we want to!". Pretty much sums it up.

NOTE: The Bama-LSU rivalry is the fastest growing rivalry in the SEC. Just watch, that game will reach the same levels as UT-Fla did in the 90s and early 00s. They cannot stand each other right now, and both are stacking up sick talent like cord wood.

Still, the issue was who is their top rival. I think if you polled Alabama fans, about 90% of them would say Auburn is their top rival. I don't see how there's even a question there. We're next, but we aren't their top rival.

Good thread.

Bama's #1 is Awbarn without a doubt.
Bama's #2 is Tennessee. A great traditional and ongoing rivalry.
Bama's #3 is JeaLSU. But, I think Bama is the #1 rival for them now.
Bama vs UF is a rivalry too because of the number of UA vs UF SEC CGs played.

One of the great things about the SEC is that there are so many rivalry-ish games.

For the teams that most consider the "power" SEC teams -- UA, LSU, AU (west) and UF, UT, UGA (east) -- it's always a big game when they play each other. For the other teams -- Arky, Ole Miss, MSU (west) and SC, UK, Vandy (east) -- its always a big game for them when they play the "power" teams.

Whether playing in or out of the conference, the "power" SEC teams always have a big target on their backs. It seems like other teams just pull out all of the stops and give it their all to play their best against them. Think about how well UCLA and Wyoming played vs UT and how well Utah and Tulane played vs Bama last year. It sure looked like it was better than they played in quite a few of their other games. Always gotta bring your A-Game or you can get embarrassed. I'm sure the 2008 UCLA & Wyoming losses stung as badly for you guys as the 2007 UL-Monroe loss did for Bama. I hope y'all beat UCLA's butt this year.

Well, I asked a UGlyA friend a mine about the UGlyA rival and he said Fla, Vols, Ga Tech. As for UT rivals UGlyA and U of Floridiots are not even true rivals for us. Fla. became a rival for us after we traded wins with them from 90-93. It became more heated when they beat us 5 times in a row 93-97. I have always thought of UGlyA was a rival to us because I grew up on the Tenn.-Georgia border and our biggest high school rival was a school from Georgia. Before we began playing UGlyA on a regular basis in 92, we had only played them 20 times. The rivaly didn't start until 2000 when they beat us and it actually became a rivaly where you didn't know who would win. Tenn. biggest "traditional" rival is Alabama then Auburn followed by Kentucky the Vandy. Auburn was a close second in rivaly until the division split of the SEC in 1992. The split cause the rivaly to go from a every year rivaly to every 4 yr rivaly(even longer due to the yr in yr out Ark-Tenn rivaly in the Clinton-Gore yrs). Kentucky is a big traditional rival but until they start beating us more than once a quarter-century, it will not have that rivaly feel, also bring back the beer barrel. Vandy is the in-state rival but they have won just once since '82. But back in the '20, Vandy pretty much own us so we went out a got a certain coach to do one thing beat Vandy. If you hadn't guess the coach it was Neyland. Fla biggest traditional rival is of course UGlyA but with Fla going 16-3 against UGlyA in the last 19yrs, Fla has lost some of it fire for the rivaly. For the last 25 yrs Fla biggest rival was Fla State, with FSU winning over 60% of the games going 8-5-1 against Fla in the SOS yrs. I think the Fla-UT rivaly will definately be heating now that we have CLK so i guess it is a wait and see. Basically you have a traditional rivaly and a heated rivaly. The traditional rival has a long history and may be one-sided. A heated rivaly is a rivaly where it is usually back and forth with championship implication coming from the game.

Most Bama fans would rather lose every game but beat auburn than win every game then lose to them.
