Our season starts now.

They really are.

This season, on paper, we had four gimmes, two toss-ups and six beatdowns.

One of the gimmes so far wasn't so easy, and one of the beatdowns was close. It's been a wash between UAB and LSU, we've performed exactly to expectations so far.

All four games left are very winnable if we play as well as we did today. Ole Miss is the wild card. Kentucky at home is very winnable, Vandy is always winnable and we should kill Memphis.

Said at the onset of the season that simply being in a bowl game would be tremendous, still looks that way.

We really need to get to a bowl, for the extra practice alone. We need the additional practice time, it will do nothing but make the team better.

We've got four winnable games on the schedule. The mission for Dooley is simple: 3-1. Now is the time he can prove his worth as this teams leader. Don't worry about what Ole Miss did to us last year, don't worry about the win streak over Kentucky (but for the love of all that is holy, please don't lose to Memphis). If we can close out the season 3-1 or 4-0, things are definitely going in the right direction.

If that happens, he will have taken Tennessee's worst team ever, and avoided having Tennessee's worst season ever. It doesn't mean I believe he is the guy to return us to prominence, but given the situation, its a good start.

Bump. Off to a good start.

Great post, Milo!

This thread may be the most straightforward summary of the UT football season that I've read.

This week was easily the best showing for this team and this staff. There were moments when it looked like Tennessee football. :hi:

Justin Hunter... I thank God that you are a Vol!

Uno mas bump.

No matter what happens when the Cats come to K-Town, this season will not stand alone as the worst in school history, in spite of the fact that this may be the least talented team UT has ever fielded.

That, IMO, reflects at least somewhat well on Dooley.

Let's beat Kentucky senseless and make it to a bowl game, something Fulmer couldn't accomplish two out of his last four seasons here. I can feel the fanbase slowly starting to band together behind CDD. Good things on the way.

If you logged on here a month ago, you would have thought Phil finished 9-4 and 10-3 in 05 and 08. Glad that +@** is over.

Milo, you wrote in your original post that you still didn't know if Dooley was "the guy," are you as skeptical now as you were originally?

Every win curbs my doubts a bit more, but they're still there.

I have strong faith in his player management, and the x's and o's are getting there. But the bottom line to success in the SEC is recruiting, and he's going to have to get better talent than 8th or 9th in the conference or wherever we're at right now for the 2011 class.

Great post. I think Dooley has done enough to help his recruiting effort as well. If we can beat UK and win a bowl, those wins could give a tremendous boost to the program.

Dooley is dangerously close to earning my full and unwavering support. And, I did not exactly start out in his camp. :hi:
