Our QB played well

I will eat my crow.

I defended JG all offseason . I got caught up in his stats...which make him look like the 3rd or 4th best QB in the SEC.

He is bad. Must be good in practice...to beat out the backups every year...but he is bad. Really bad. No accuracy...no touch..stares down receivers...you name it. He dumped the ball to backs and receivers that were both covered and well short of a 1st down so many times saturday... with receivers open down the field. Terrible.

Unlike last season...he had time to throw Saturday. Even though we rotated linemen as if it were a scrimmage...he had time. Made terrible decisions with the ball. That's the depressing part. Not his lack of touch...his lack of decision making. This far into his college career...if he hasnt learned what to do with the ball yet, he isnt going to.

Bailey better start day 1 next year. Or 1 of our 2 backups. Somebody besides JG...or we are in real trouble. He will put up good stats...while we lose repeatedly.

The kids has won 8 games...in 3 years.

Let that sink in. In 3 years. Wow.

I think JG is an average quarterback at best but someone explain this to me. Why have 3 different OCs and 2 HC all named JG as the starting quarterback? What do you experts know that these highly paid professionals do not know. I am sure they have seen more game film than any of us.
My guess is that the backups must be really really bad.
What you read and hear about in the media is a coaching strategy. Ever wondered why the backups are so inconsistent and JG is near flawless according to the media and CJP? Remember... practice is closed to the public and media. Think back to what we HAVE been able to see. The spring game and now 1 full game with JG. How consistent was JG in either? Not very to say the least. What I seen was TOTALLY different then what I’ve been told. JG in fact was the most inconsistent qb that I seen of the 3 in the spring game. Followed by JTSs accuracy. If we’re talking CONSISTENCY then BM was the most consistent. Complete 180 from reports. Point is I see what CJP is doing. He’s creating competition within the backups through the media by downplaying their abilities while putting JG on a pedestal. So the real question is why? He doesn’t trust any of them. He knows JG will check down and keep the ball out of harms way. Even if it costs us the game. BM won’t do that. He has that firey competitor in him that we’re missing and CJP is afraid of the turnovers he’ll bring with him while taking his lumps.

Sorry for the rant but overall what’s happened here is CJP handled the qb comp wrong. All he did was CREATE a false disbelief within our fan base that our backups must be horrendous if JG is our best option. The truth is just the opposite. BM gives this team the best chance to win games with offense. JG gives it the best chance to win it with defense. Kind of brilliant for a defensive minded HC if you think about it.

He put up 311 yards and 2 TDs.
One in the beginning. One at the end. That's called playing a complete game.

He was engaged all game long. He missed some throws but what can you can expect with such a strong arm?

He checked down a lot because it was the closest eligible receiver, and he has faith in all his teammates!

For those of you complaining about him sliding too early...if he gets hurt... who's going to play QB? He wasn't thinking about himself. He was thinking about his TEAM.

This is JGs team! For two more years! That's a lot of opportunities to get better.

GO VOLS!

Good grief!! He had 3 turnovers and refused to throw down field and when he did he usually missed. He seems content to throw short passes to bolster his percentage rather than stretch the defense down the field.

JG needs to be benched because of his poor decision making on Saturday.

No fan he's horrible, honestly horrible. I like jg but he still can't read defenses, holds the ball too long and has no internal clock. He's not the only problem but he's definitely part of it

What game were you watching and what is your drink of choice because I want some. Seriously, you cannot count the garbage yardage on a late drive and the last TD, the game was well within GA States hand. He still continually stares down is first and only intended receiver, doesn't survey the field. He misses seeing open receivers and even commentators commented on it. His situational awareness is lacking, has yet to be able to read what the defense has given him and to this day unable to pick up a CB blitz even when the DB put it out there on full display coming off the corner, that was a huge issue last year.

You do realize he was the top Duel Threat QB in the country coming out of high school right??

Tell me what he's done so wrong.

JG was out there battling yesterday.
High school was many years ago and highschool talent doesn't always translate to college, just like college doesn't always translate to the NFL. The defenses are better, bigger, stronger and faster. Also, you can be listed whatever you want coming out of high school, his play on the field tells me otherwise. He is not dual-threat QB, he even looks like he is running in slow motion, these last few years have convinced me of that. If he was truly a dual-threat than you would have to question his decision making because he hasn't used his legs to move out of the pocket to make key throws when needed. Kid hangs on to the ball too long, if his first option isn't open than chalk that down up as a loss.

Please tell me your account has been hacked???

His stats were decent, but he looked lost several times. In the pocket, he still gets spooked and uncomfortable many times when blocking is there. Rarely stepped up in the pocket which caused one of the sacks. When we needed him to make a play near the end (when it mattered 2 drives before the last one), he folded.

When he stepped into his throw, he looked great. Probably amazing in 7-on-7 drills. But when he feels any D-line pressure (whether real or imaginary), he is still deer in the headlights at times. He needs to elevate his game a lot, especially in big moments if we are going to win any game.

In all seriousness, I’d like to hear from you guys why you think the coaching staff went with jG to start the season over the freshmen. It’s an honest question, not a defense of JG
I've honestly wondered this. Either he looks like Peyton in practice and the others don't, or the coaches are lost. I want him to be successful cause he's our qb, but dang he just doesn't have it in an actual game. The auburn game had me thinking he's arrived, but apparently he went back.

Dobbs was supposedly terrible in practice, but he was a gamer. JG isn't

Experienced cannon fodder. Im sure they thought his experience would help them win even though he isnt the most talented. If he loses the starting gig before the season starts he transfers immediately which leaves the coaches with no experience at the QB position. BUT after Saturdays game apparently experience is meaningless for this team.

I dont care what his stats were, he was terrible. I had hoped under Chaney and another year to mature he could potentially be great this year, wrong! He was the same JG I've seen in the past, chooses the quickest play close to him, can't see open receiver's down field, doesnt even look, cant put touch on a pass, overthrown receiver's, can't protect the ball, and personally i don't like his attitude because he seems to act like he's way better than what he is. I would start another QB against BYU if nothing more to make the point, if you want this job your going to have to show me you want it.

Nah man. Jarrett wouldn't waste time on a message board. That dude is all about being QB. He's dialed in.

311 and 2 scores ain't nothing to sneeze at ✔️

When you lose to GA State.... it’s allergy season.

Team has a lot of problems and JG is equally to blame as others. He threw 2 pics that counted (+1 called back by a PI that had no bearing on the INT) and lost a fumble. This was not a performance to hang his hat on. I’m sure he agrees.

Dude..there were some snaps where he was staring the receiver down before he even snapped the ball..

Someone should start a petition encouraging JG to enter the transfer portal!

What's 311÷4....dont know if it was JG or Chaney but should have been able to throw downfield much more.

Pick your pat reply... “He gives us the best chance to win” “He has better ‘command’ of the offense” “He’s older and more mature” “He’s ‘earned’ it”....

Start Maurer Saturday.....

Sorry. But you are deluding yourself. His decision making still stinks. He still can't read D's effectively. He got good protection for the vast majority of the game. His "one at the end" was against a prevent D with the game out of reach.

If he gets hurt then we get to see if either of the other two can learn to make good, timely decisions then get the ball to the right player in time for them to make some yards after the catch. He's had 4 years to "get better". He hasn't overcome his weaknesses. The game hasn't slowed down for him... not even against a weak mid-major. If it hasn't in 4 years... it is time to cut bait.

I really and truly hoped he had improved. He hasn't. The OL was better (at least in pass protection). UT needs someone at QB who can lead the O and make plays. He hasn't been that guy... and he didn't look like it Saturday.

Seriously SJ??

Come on dude...

The stats are deceiving in this case. He played well below average in my opinion. With that being said, he's still probably our best bet at QB.

No he is not.

Guys this was a troll thread.

I have been advocating for Brian Maurer since December! I spent all Saturday doing the same. Just thought I would have a little fun last night when I made the this thread.
