Our Program and Staff: Creating a "Buzz" or lack thereof..

At one time we picked who we wanted like bama does now,now its fighting vandy ,ky and all the other nobody teams for the left overs....even if we win 10 this year with the cup cake schedule we should still get rid of Dooley. The longer he is here the longer we stay in the hole.

Pure volnation gold right there. Geez.

It never ceases to amaze me the ridicule and over analyzing of Coach Dooley. His job is not to satisfy some emptiness you have inside you because you're ansy during the offseason and can't wait till the season starts. Dooley is doing his job so let him do it. He doesn't have time to go throughout the NegaVol community and stroke egos like yours. He's scheming, game planning, recruiting. Wait...running a football team. Just because you say that if you were a recruit you would want the "hot sauce" does not mean recruits that he's going after want the "hot sauce". He knows how to recruit and doesn't need any advise from message boarders on how to get the job done. If that were the case all of us would be Div I coaches. But guess what? We aren't and many of us trust and believe in him to get it done. This season is about "resiliency" meaning the ability to bounce back from adversity and that's what all of these players have been focused on. I get that the season can't get here soon enough for you, myself and others but dude. He doesn't need any help from you or any other keyboard coach. This is his chosen profession, its what he does. So instead of you trying to model him after James "Boom Boom" Franklin lets allow him to be Coach Dooley of the Tennessee Volunteers. This over analyzing him and throwing every negative thing at the wall to see what will stick is getting old.

Excellent post. Yes recruiting is certainly important but you can't stroke everyone to make them feel all comfy inside. College Football is a business, big business, and the coaches only have so many hours in a day to devote to multiple taskings, and hopefully, leave a couple of hours for the family. Only those guys really know where all of their hours are really going. The payoff is on the practice field and ultimately on game day. Let the coaches do their jobs, get back on the winning track, and the recruits will come. Afterall, who wants a recruit that has to be constantly stroked? We want recruits who can be coached into men. GBO!

You obviously don't understand today's youth then, especially big time football prospects.

Hmmm, since when is Bama, LSU, Arkansas, GA, FL, and SC cupcakes? Seems like there are at least 3 teams there that have won NCs. With Bama & LSU battling it out for last year's NC--cupcakes, I don't think so. What planet are you on?

well maybe 5 and 7 and 6 and 6 is ok with u......and at the bottom 5 in the sec in football recruiting...The vols i know are a top 10 team everyone year...I dont see Dooley doing that and we do have talent..For gods sake we almost went 4 and 8.....

Think you quoted the wrong guy there, friend. I don't think those are cupcakes.

I certainly understand the difference between being immature and being responsible for one's actions. Granted, today's youth is in to all the high tech gadgets, social media, etc., and I agree it is certainly medium that could be tapped to communicate to recruits. Should it be the primary tool? No. Could it be useful? Of course. I'm not saying don't use it, just saying that whatever medium a coach uses the focus should be on developing those people to not only be good/great football players but to develop as men and productive members of society. We all know only a select few will make it to the pros and for the majority they need to be prepared for the real world and for a real J-O-B. Life happens whether you are ready for it or not, it's coming. Coaches should help these people to not only become good football players but good citizens prepared to meet life's challenges. At 18-19 yrs old all a lot of them can see is the ice cream, not what it took to make it.

Well if you want to make history then we would sure do it by firing a coach after a 10 win season as you proposed.

we wont win 10 this year...the big 3 will work on there nfl grade thats it..i just find it funny how some of u can build up dooley as a winner. After we seen 2 years of coaching blunders and bad calls..I like Dooley .....hes just a bad game day coach and he cant win games..it is what it is..

You're wearing me out trying to make sense of this garbage. I never said we would win 10 this year. I was responding to the statement you made when you said even if Dooley won 10 games this season he should still be fired.

I was making the point that there is no way UT would ever fire Dooley if he won 10 games this season. I was reacting to a hypothetical situation that you yourself put out there. How we got to this point I have no idea.

I could care less about the "buzz" on Twitter that Dooley is or isn't creating around the program.

The "buzz" around the program will return when the wins start adding up. Vol fans are salivating for a good team, myself included.

On the other hand, no wins, no buzz and probably no Dooley.

u gave me a idea.. thank you...friend.

..Create a new position for 100,000.... coach of tweets....seriously I think op has a legitimate point.....hope UT listens

The thing I'm curious about is this: How did the team go from so "fired-up" after that win (apparent in the leaked locker-room video) to not even wanting to be on the field against Kentucky? Something happened in-between that video and game-day the next Saturday that killed all the excitement from the team.

I have felt the exact same way. It was bizarre to watch that team that day. :ermm:

You don't understand that there are many players out there that have work ethic and personal accountability and don't have to have smoke blown up them in order to perform. The former is the consistent base from which you build.

I've given a shot at deciphering your post, and think I managed to gather what you were going for.

That said:

Past performance is not a measure of future success.

We lost two years ago thanks, in large part, to a horrendous roster and a tough schedule. Almost beat LSU, to boot.

Our roster wasn't much better last year. No depth; not many units with competent starters. We didn't perform well, but who really thought we would be any good?

This is the first year Dooley has had any depth, good or bad. And we have an overhauled coaching staff. If we had units play poorly and Dooley replaced those coaches, then there is a chance he has upgraded.

Not many, if any, are building Dooley up to be the savior of UT football, but for Christ's sake, cut him some slack. You guys would tell a pitcher he could only throw one pitch and be pissed when he gives up 10 runs. Maybe he's not the best coach ever, but he's certainly not the worst.
