Our passing game or lack of passing game?

It's amazing to see how many Div 1A SEC head coaches we have in the forums. The university knows the fan base and boosters won't support a head coach that can't lead his team to victory. There's a dollar sign behind every decision and right now, they feel that Butch is the right decision. Butch also knows that he needs to make the right calls. The coaches and athletic department I'm sure are fully aware of everyone's potential and what needs to happen to make it to the next level. Dynasties aren't built in a year, two, or even three. In those years, you're just laying the foundation. This team wasn't really supposed to compete until next year. A higher ranked, perennial powerhouse came and our Vols had their way with them for most of the game. Some breaks went their way and we made some poor decisions. We're a young team. We're still learning. This team will still do great things. You'll see. There's still plenty football left and plenty of heart on this team. The kids feel it and want it just as much. It'll come together. Have some patience and keep supporting the team. We have to keep showing them that we have their backs.

I don't need to be a master mechanic to look at the stats for a car and tell you that it is a piece of garbage or not. I don't need to be a chef to tell you that the food your wife makes tastes like crap...

So why do I need to be a coach in the NCAA to look at the product UT is putting on the field, and say whether or not it is performing well or not?

Maybe because it's more than likely not your field of work and you probably don't have any college coaching experience beyond Xbox or Playstation? Performing well or not to whose standards? The "product" I saw last night was an improvement over last year's team. They were playing a quality, higher ranked team that has had coaching staff consistency. We were underdogs going in. CBJ and staff just now have a roster with the kids they've recruited. Let them do their job. I don't need to be a psychologist to tell you that you're hurting as if a girl just rejected you when you asked her to go to the prom with you, but you can always stop supporting the Vols and become a Gator fan. Man up and move on to the next game.

I agree and disagree with some of your points . I think the biggest issue is Dobbs ability as a passer. There was a reason he did not get the start over Worley and Peterman and there is a reason that the coaches want to rely on Dobbs and the teams running ability . All of the pass plays are single read , easy execution passes . You ever wonder why an offense that has historically been wide open , with a layered west coast passing tree and athletes all over the field is playing it so close to the vest ? There is a concern with QB execution in the passing game . Be it football intelligence , inaccuracy , inability ...I dont know ...but the concern is there . Maybe Dobbs can develop as the season progresses

To be fair when Dobbs did look to throw downfield he was getting sacked, hit or had to run but anybody can see with the plays they called the coaches are concered about his passing ability

One of the big deals about this is that it eventually will effect recruiting.

People will negative recruit the heck out of this.
Yes sir. North has NFL talent but isn't going to get drafted because Tennessee cannot throw the football.

Your patronizing attempt at trying to promote yourself as the only "intellectual" on a college football message board is highly amusing. Especially when your argument devolves from an attempting to psychologically associate my dissolution with the UT coaching staff to a supposed high school prom rejection, to telling me to stop supporting the Vols and be a Gators fan if I don't agree with you.

I haven't seen anyone saying that the the players are not improved on from last year on a skill level. But the coaching decisions and overall philosophy have not improved. Poorly conservative game day coaching has been fairly consistent for Butch Jones since he has been here. We are seeing the same 3 and up run up the middle plays that we saw under Bajakian with Debord. Butch is the common denominator.

A lot Of teams are going to put 8 to 9 players in the box like Oklahoma did and force Dodds to beat them with his arm and I just don't know if he can.
There are counters to the stacked box.
Our coaches used none of them.
Dobbs had his worst half of FB since being here for a reason.
Agree he's not that good, but didn't get the help he needed in that game.

The biggest problem is the oline and coaching. He did well the first half. The second half drops and bad calls killed the passing game, along with the oline collapsing.

Exactly. I never saw Dobbs have any time in the pocket...if there ever was a pocket. We broke down several times on even the most simple d-line twists...but what to expect from such inexperience

Not the players. The coaches have as much blame to take as any single player. They made a lot of really bad calls. They were playing too conservative. 1st quarter was really good but the rest of the game was piss poor.

I think you are right ...and wrong . The coaches called the screens and bubbles ...there was a TE open in the short middle all the time. 13 and 31 passing is the problem . It is hard for me to attack the 'scheme' ...when it seems to be an execution issue . We couldn;t even hit the screens and bubbles . We could not routinely hit the routine throws . You can run a pro-set , I form , air raid , fun n gun ....if 13 of 31 is all you got ....its just not going to work out .

Team that has coaching staff consistency? Meaning OU? You do realize that Stoops brought in a new OC this year, Right? With a walk on QB? Pretty sure Butch's staff, sans Debord (who isn't changing anything) have been together a minute or so too. This is Dobbs third year here.
We were a whopping 1 point underdog / pick em.
Not even going to touch the have to be a coach to know football thing.
