We all should have realized there was a huge problem when Butch got rid of Pittman. We have had some of the sorriest OLs in the SEC for 5 years.

I am so tired about hearing how good the O Line is going to be great only to pitiful. We have not had a line worthwhile in a very long time.

It the old Fulmer days, I used to wonder how Tennessee maintained top twenty status. We had a smattering of great players across the board, but I decided that good line play carried those teams.

They must sit around campfires all day and tell ghost stories because they are the softest bunch of lineman I have ever seen. I can't remember the last time I watched an SEC game where the UT line pushed another team down the field. Maybe UK?

Against Alabama, it almost doesnt matter how good you are. They just seem to be better.

Thank you OP for starting this thread. I have been saying all year this was our weakest position group (as it has been for the last 4 or 5 years) While everyone was lighting their torches ready to come after Bob Shoop it’s tough to blame the defense when they are always on the field because the offense can’t get a first down or sustain drives. Also I feel bad for John Kelly who is an excellent back but has no one to block for him.
***Trey Smith is the exception to this group.

To add insult to injury I live in Greenville, SC and Tigernet is saying that Cade Mays is suppose to come down for the GT game. We might get Dabbo’d again like with Tee Higgins.

If we get the right coach, I think we will be able to keep Mays. I would love to see him and Trey Smith on the same line.

We also run a lot of RPO's which doesn't allow your offensive line to fire off the ball and drive block. The advantage on offense is knowing the play while the defense doesn't. RPO's take that advantage away from our offensive line.

When you promote the understudy of a guy who's OL unit was terrible you get a more terrible knockoff of the aforementioned OL unit. The Butch Jones tenure at TN will be remembered for such boneheaded decisions.

Same thing happened with Lawson, got rid of him just to promote (not really) his underling.

Trey Smith has been a good player on the line from
what we are told, but what about the other linemen?
Weren't some if not all supposed to be good prospects when signed on as Vols? With the injuries also there
is a lack of adequate depth. :ermm:

I watched one play where Richmond was engaged with his defender. Kendrick has another defender coming through the gap and decides to go double team Richmond's guy with him leading to JG getting sacked! What the hell are these guys looking at?? And this is not the first time I've seen these guys do this. Horribly coached and soft.

Just to clarify Kendrick had the man over him and was engaged with him and Richmond came over to his right When Kendrick saw the blitzer he reached for him but was to late. The guy blitzing was unaccounted from an OL assignment standpoint so that means he was someone the QB is responsible to know and avoid. It was not an OL sack, but since most on this board don't have a clue about OL assignments I can see how you could reach that conclusion.

Butch would just tell you that you dont understand the zone blocking concept that gives up sacks every other play.

Jones would say that our OL has good grades and that they pick up trash on campus..

We have an offensive line? I thought Butch said at the end of last season we were going to try playing 7-on-7. Guess the other teams didn't get the memo.
