Will be a coach much like Fulmer in the late 90's. I know that is easy to say but think about it. The successful programs today do basically the same thing we did in the 90's.

Bama, PSU, OSU, Washington and even Clemson to some extent are hard nose run first, pass to open up the run if needed and always have the long and intermediate stuff thrown in to keep you honest.

The defense is the real key they pressure you into playing their style and settle for field goals and not TD'S. Then when it is to late they turn the dogs loose and it is over.

Who ever that person is in all the ones we hear about thats the one, not the wide open pass happy offense and defense that is just there so the offense can catch their breath.

I would like to know with a TD lead we can take the ball, drive 80 yards and eat up the last 7:00 minutes off the clock for a victory formation win on the opponents 5 yard again.

Then we should have gone after Matt Ruhle at Baylor. That is exactly what he did at Temple.

Our next coach will be Phillip Fulmer AD announcing the head coach and then sitting down and getting back up as Phillip Fulmer HC of the UT Vols.

With today's rules and changes in offensive schemes, I don't think the "defense wins championships" statement is as true today as even 10 years ago. Bama's defense is always talked about, and for good reason, but every team that has beaten them has out scored them; not out defense them. Winning defense today seems to be about a dominant D Line that puts pressure on the QBs. Not a dominant no scoring D. Offense was TENN's problem this year even though the D was pitiful. The O got them 9 wins the previous 2 seasons. Dominant D lines do not let you consistently run the ball, and they pressure the QB in 3rd and long. A very good offense is not gonna be shut down by hardly any defense. Look at OU and see what an offense can do.

Gon' hafta agree to disagree w/ ya there bud... first... profound statement "Every team that has beaten them has out scored them..." yes. that is the definition of beating them. The reason they were able to outscore them is because their defenses held Bama to less points than their offenses scored (so in a way, as you said "out defensed them") is another way to say the same thing. You look at UGA, Bama even Clemson to a degree... it's their defenses that win the games. They do this by demoralizing the opposing offense. Start holdin' 'em to a bunch of 3 & outs and they start pushing and making mistakes. UT's D looked really bad b/c they were on the field way too much of games due to the high paced offense we ran we wither went 3 & out or we scored way too quickly and the D never got a rest. Did you watch the Memphis v UCF game that ended w/ a basketball score last week... there's a reason neither of those teams are in the playoff... they wouldn't put up a basketball score against any of the playoff teams, but they'd give up basketball scores. All that to say, yes it's still very true. Defense wins championships.

Excellent reply, although I still think The offense can win when your defense is off, and less chance to win when the offense is off. One of our opinions will be shown to be truer come New Years. GA vs OK

I agree with this and the philosophy. However if you're going this coordinator route if there's a clear difference between candidate 1 and 2, you better do all possible to get the top one.

One of my best friends is from Oklahoma, he feels they're gonna lose by 10.

I think if you look at great defensive lead teams they don't score as much as they take away what you are trying to do and then are able to adapt to the changes you make. I know that sounds simple but only a few can adapt and that is what sets them apart from the ones that can't.

I agree and that is a must. They ALL have to be on the same page.

Looks like it is Pruitt. I hope he just brings the RIGHT people that really do make up the BEST STAFF IN THE COUNTRY !!!!
