Our New Offense This Year

I admit that in the UCLA game we passed a lot more than usual, but is it just me or has anyone else noticed that our offensive plays and formations look the same as they have for years. It doesn't look like a "new offense" was put in by Clawson at all (like many of us read about in the offseason). The only thing I have seen thats different from last year is putting Gerald Jones at QB and even that is similar to what we did with Eric Locke years ago.

We had the "G-Gun" package last year also. exact same crap!

I've been saying the same thing. I think we could put Sarkisian in at OC and the offense would look the same, and to me, that points to....

A lot of it looks the same but I like the direction it is taking. If we had a QB who knew his ass from a hole in the ground, maybe it'd look a whole lot better to you. We have playmakers getting open in space, but no one to throw to them. And we aren't utilizing Creer nearly enough.

The more I watch the more I wonder how much we are seeing is what Crompton leaves us with as opposed to what Clawson would like to do.

It normally takes a year or two to get a new offense installed and maybe they can recruit to what they want it to be. But to go along with what you are saying, many of my friends are huge 1AA fans, as it used to be known, and when I bragged to them we had gotten Clawson from Richmond they looked at me like I had two heads. They didn't understand why anyone would want him. I rattled off all his accomplishments I had read about but they insisted he had always been mediocre at best. That's when I started wondering.

i agree, i think we have open people but our qb can't get it to them. i think our running game has had some good bright spots but i think we abandoned it too early in the ucla game.

it seems we don't have the qb bring out the potential of the offense.

Clawson doesnt have an offense. It could just be our 11 starters on the field and we would find a way to fumble, throw interceptions and lose the game.

Clawson Offensive play book

*Slip Screens to the WR
*G-Gun ( we are a threat to go deep on that every time, yea you see how teams just load the box on that )
*Crompton dropping back to pass and starring down one reciever
*Screen to our RBs

honestly there isnt much to our playbook.

Three things that need to happen:
1. Jones needs to throw the ball out of the G Gun
2. We need to get the ball in Jones and Taylors hands more
3. They need to open up the competition for water boy so Crompton can be first on the depth chart instead of QB, hes killed us every week. When will Phil see this? A blind man can see this

Help me understand; I saw Crompton getting fired up, taking hits he didn't have to take and stuff and apparently trying to fire up the team. Why will no one follow him? Is it him or most of the team.

Even the commentators noticed that Crompton isn't making the correct reads. theirs been way to many plays that the commentors will say wow Crompton made a bad read there Warren was wide open on the other side of the field. I know it isn't all Crompton. He didn't cause all the penalties and he doesn't call the plays, but he does have to execute them and he is doing a piss poor job. I say open up the QB job. We can't do much worse at this point

I agree completely about Creer. Hardesty as well. I think Hardesty should get the majority of runs with Foster and Creer splitting equaly!! to heck w/ the all time rushing record!

Im not sure how much of the offensive system is actually in place. I think they may have dumbed it down some due to the bad play of Crompton. I really haven't seen any new looks this year. I wonder if Crompton suffered from the lose of Cut?

i don't know, many people say Cut wasn't a big fan of crompton.

The "G-Gun" package has to be about the silliest thing ever. It would work if it were used maybe twice a game, but everybody on florida new to crowd the box with Gerald came in. If that is the future of the "clawfense" than may God have mercy on Rocky Top.

Last year I happened to meet Jonathan Crompton's Mom and she told me that her son gets cussed out everyday in practice. She said they treat Ainge very well, but cuss Jonathan out. The way she made it sound was like it was Phil doing the cussing, but it makes since to me that it was Cutcliffe.

On a funny note she acted like she didn't like Phil and she told me "Mark Richt was a very nice man."

the offense does look diffferent, there have been different runs, different routes, a few different formations and looks. we are not executing it at all, what i have not seen at all is the downfield passing game, not only the deep ball, but where is the 20 yard crossing patterns or the deep outs or a nice 10 yd slant on time to jones with the chance to break one. I do believe that clawson has kept it very basic and limited to allow crompton to try to get comfortable. If and when we ever get in a rythym on offense, i believe clawson will open it up and take shots down the field and at least keep 8 men out of the box. There is some potential with our O but we got to play better and sustain drives and put points on the board the majority of the time.

I agree with ruslt. I think they have dumbed down the offense because of our QB situation. Still looks like CPF is still pulling the strings though.
