3rd and 5-
We run what appears to be a RPO. Richmond is beat and Chandler chips him (rather than a strong block). JG looks right the whole way and missed Jennings wide open in the slot. JG reloads and we eventually have multiple lineman downfield more than 5 yards. That’s a sign he’s holding onto the ball entirely too long.

4th down-
False start, followed by another that should’ve been called. Then we get beat on a 3 man pass rush. We have too many OL who are simply not SEC players at this time.

I have read all the it’s JG’s fault or the OC called a bad game , or KC would have thrown it down field posts to get my fill . Honestly Carolina was in a quarter-quarter half defense and took away the deep ball. Yes our Qb holds the ball way too long but we moved the ball well all night except when it was time to put the game away. Our defense lacks the talent upfront to pressure the qb and that make us have to bring exta rushers which puts the db’s in man coverage. One mistake In that situation is costly . See the TD right before half as example. And honestly if JJ doesn’t get the 15 yard unsportsmanlike penalty I doubt they get a TD there. We gave them hope before half and we never recovered.

Im telling you guys and gals ..CJP hired his buddy as a OL coach from Colorado St ( wow) ... listen I realize that we are short some lineman but but there are some talent .. Marcus Tatum was no slouch , Trey Smith before he was hurt ..Ryan Johnsoin, Carvin , Locklear .. Richmond ..you have to coach them up ... and my goodness the undicipline .... how many false starts ..thats just dicipline and coaching ........ his buddy hiring may get him fired ..we have seen it before ...

Sorting through all the bs on here, this is surprisingly the best post I’ve seen... this is our reality now. We are bottom of the SEC since 2017 season.
Auburn still gives me hope... last nights game, the team started fast for once... but we didn’t have the horses to finish and credit Carolina for never quitting.
If we pull a bowl game out, and he adds a few more elite players to the 19 class I would start betting Pruitt can do it.
We are all just sick of pulling a Tennessee... and this board is so far up and down because everything we’ve known about our program has been changed. We aren’t a top tier SEC team and it’s our 5th head coach since we let our admin disgrace fulmer.

Mostly Tatum. I wonder if our center or the QB's voice inflection is causing a late snap or some linemen to move it's usually a tackle farthest from the center. Don't seem to happen with the Guards. Also, It's just not Tatum we have had it in the most opportune times all year.

Anybody else see TK Jr take a lot of wrong angles on the defense?

Dude looked lost and couldn’t cover anyone.

It's getting comically bad at this point.

I thought 3 procedure penalties in punt formation would have been the lowlight until last night.

5 false starts and a few others that should have been called really upped the ante on the suck.

Tatum was ultimately the cause of that last sack but Guarantano had no idea what to do with the ball either. He has to feel that pressure and do something. Take off and run, heave it down field...whatever. Just do something with it.

With the way they were playing back all night and especially dropping 8, thought they should have gone to a screen or short pass to Calloway or Chandler and hope they can break a tackle or two.

This coach, NO coach, can "play" the game. I know, these things can be taught in practice. Well maybe, but when guards that are 4'+/- from the ball to be snapped and they can't get it right, what can a coach do but take them out of the game? Coaches can teach until they are blue in the face, but if the student CAN'T learn,,, then you have a big problem that only time and better player evaluation during recruiting can cure. Time is the answer. However we (fans) just don't seem to have any to allow for change.

Vols were the least penalized team in the SEC walking into Saturday

And yet that still doesn't change the fact they couldnt line up for a punt a few weeks ago or had glaringly bad false starts last night. Noise definitely got to them at times last night.

Noticed the announcers mentioned and seemed surprised at one point that the Vols had zero pass interference or defensive holding penalties out of the secondary.

Not surprising when the DBs bust assignments and let the receivers run free if you think about it though.

I think there is some paralysis by analysis going on with JG as well. Coaches emphasizing ball security and no interceptions which is fine but a QB has gotta take a few chances occassionally.

I cant blame Tatum for that one. JG held the ball long enough to complete a graduate degree back there. Michael Oher in his prime couldn't hold a DL off that long.

No excuse for the penalties. Just pointing out that other teams are doing the same, and at a higher rate

Yup, ultimately you have to make a play when things are on the line. I hate it for the kid, but he’s 17 games into his career and still hasn’t shown us he can do it.
