Our fan base is embarrasing right now..

Embarrassing? No, we are ****ing sick and tired of losing. Jones needs to hire a bettter offensive coordinator. It's not even arguable at this point.

Dave Clawson is available. That worked well.

I'm assuming some of the people on this thread work for a living. I'm also assuming that they work with people for a living. I'm also assuming that they recognize that it takes a lot to build a team that works well together.

But I guess I'm assuming too much. Based on the armchair OC's on this site.

I blame Al Gore for this mess. Not everyone should have access to his internet.

I agree with the op. All of you people calling for firings are ignorant to football and what Butch has going here. You are embarrassing the program. Grow up.

I believe we have the correct coaches and we are getting the right players. The decision making on the play calling has to get better period. Worley has to make better decisions with the ball also. It is no one persons fault. This is the worst I have felt in along time about the remainder of the season though. Trying to stay positive even though they make me want to dig my eyes out with a rusty fork. GBO!

After reading all these threads about wanting coaches fired, bashing Butch Jones, the O-Line, etc... Our fanbase couldn't be anymore embarrasing right now on the way we're acting. I'll admit, it was a bad loss and it's a game we should have won but it's NOT the end of the season like some of you guys are claiming.

We still have a chance to become bowl eligible. There's plenty of games left on our schedule that we can win if we just play our cards right. Butch has time to make adjustments which we desperately need to do.

I'm convinced that he's still the guy to turn this program around but it's only his 2nd year. We have a lot of young players that have talent but need more experience on the field. The players, the recruits, and myself still believe in him but there's no point in acting like a bunch of babies just because we lost a game that we should have won.

We're making Bama fans look like saints compared to us on the way we're acting and I can only imagine what other team's fan bases are thinking right now when they come onto this site and read all these threads.

I'm not giving up on this team and I'm a Vol fan till I die but whoever has gave up, needs to go on ahead and cheer for another team cause we don't need anymore negative Vol fans stinking up the place.

If this post has offended anyone, please feel free to put me on the ignore list but I'm just speaking the truth. We all need to suck it up and move on to the next game. Stay behind your Vols or else, go cheer for another team. Simple as that.

Blah, blah, blah...Oh wait I know...We're gonna work like heck.

The fair weather fans will be back in 2-3 year. However, I don't care if they can't get a ticket to jump back on the train. We will be better off without them.

Dude, we just lost to the worst Florida team in a looong time. We have the right to be upset.

Yes we do have a right to be upset, and we should be. It's just that anger gets misdirected at times, and the irrational post get out of control. I remember someone telling me in the 90's if you want to keep your sanity avoid listening to sports radio, especially after a Tennessee loss (or even a win). It will make you hate your fellow fans. Well this board was that bad Saturday night. This is the reason I avoid reading comments on news articles. Everyone feels like they must have a voice about every topic under the sun no matter how uneducated they are about that topic.

That said no one forced me to come on here Saturday, so it is just as much my fault. I should of taken a break from Vol Nation until today, but it is addictive almost.

Tennessee has become the Cubs of college football.

If fans keep supporting losing, then . . .

I don't think you can compare the Cubs and Vols. You do understand that it has been over a 100 years since the Cubs won a World Series? 1998 wasn't that long ago.

I got a better idea...How about we go out and get a QB that actually fits this system to the point they might actually open up the playbook a little more...They need someone with SPEED...Worley doesn't have it....Peterman doesn't have it...Dobbs doesn't have it...Those are all pro-style QB's and not what you want in this type of system..You need someone who can run, pass and pitch the damn ball..We have nobody on this team that can do that.

I am so over this. It doesn't mean we will be any better 3 years from now. Their skill level will not grow linearly. They will have more experience, but eventually we have to get over the hump. Hopefully.

I agree. I'm starting to get really bothered by the freshmen excuse. Every team starts freshmen. In fact, we got beat by a freshmen quarterback, coming off the bench on the road at Neyland.

Also, our sophomores were freshmen last year. I haven't seen any real improvement from last year, some seemed to have played better as freshmen.

There are no fair weather fans of this team anymore. I've been alive for 30 years and have been a Vol through it all. To say the fans have no reason to be angry is just stupid. "But predictions were for a 5-7 or 6-6 season by the experts" doesn't cut it. I THOUGHT I saw a team that definitely could've exceeded expectations because teams do it every year. We WERE one of those. This team SHOULD be sitting at 4-1 with a comfortable first place lead for the East. Hell, what was Kentucky's "preseason hype"? This team had a great chance.

100% agree!

I tend to agree. The passion that makes our fans great at times (like yesterday afternoon) is the same passion that makes our fan base embarrassing at other times (like now).

Not sure why so many don't seem to have the capacity to ride out the highs and lows with at least a little more grace.

Exactly! And that F-U Florida chant at the end of the game, with high number of recruits in attendance with their families was especially embarrassing.

I'm sure that little bit of stupidity cost the Vols a couple high value, high character commitments. Imagine being a parent of a 5 star kid who can play anywhere... imagine being a RESPONSIBLE parent with a RESPONSIBLE 5 star kid... you hear that from the stands in Knoxville... then take in a game at KENTUCKY, of all places. You won't hear that mess in Lexington... you have a good coach to play for in Kentucky, who is as passionate as Butch... where are you, as a parent, going to recommend that your son go to school?

Stuff like this mattters... especially when you are one or two players away from fielding a fine football team.

I have to let it be known that I was terribly embarrassed by the vulgar chanting. What is the purpose of a game if it's not to build character. Is that sort of behavior what we would want in society in generas?

Yes, this loss was particularly painful but CBJ is on the right track, and so is the team. We all need to support his efforts, and play through the pain. We are going to get back where we were.....we just need more time.

Mark Stoops and Brett Bielema are both looking pretty good in year 2 of taking over programs that were worse off than we were.

You are joking, right? Arkansas was in worse shape than TN?! What an ignorant post.

Arkansas:
2010: 10-3 BCS Appearance
2011: 11-2 Cotton Bowl Win
2012: 4-8
2013: [Brett Takes Over] 3-9

TN:
2010: 6-7 Music City Bowl Loss
2011: 5-7
2012: 5-7
2013: [Jones Takes Over] 5-7

I'll give ya Kentucky, but even they beat us in the last few years.

Lets see he knew the Oline was leaving BEFORE last season and did what to ensure a decent one would be set for this season ? What kind of adjustments are you suggesting ?

Yahoo Sports: Rivals.com 2012 Tennessee Commitments
I don't know about you but I don't see a single offensive lineman in the 2012 class. Do you? So tell me what was he supposed to do? He went out and got the top JUCO olineman but he hasn't panned out. So really all he can do is play freshman and sophomores. But yeah you are right he total should have been building the roster when he wasn't here. I mean really what is he supposed to do about the oline? He is putting 18 year old kids out there against 21-22 year old men. But no you are right he should put someone else out there. Oh wait Dooley didn't get any oline men that he could put out there. So how exactly was he going to ensure a good oline was out there?

I already made this thread years ago in support of Dooley and the Vols.

http://www.volnation.com/forum/tennessee-vols-football/172276-fan-base-just-embarrassing.html

2 years and a new coaching staff later we're not any better. It's getting old. At this point any fans still hanging on are not embarrassing, they are admirable.

"-Georgia message boards are literally hoping we will fire Dooley, saying he is creating a dynasty here and will be a force to be reckoned with. And our fans are showing how stupid they are by wanting to stop the progress, fire the coach, and start over."

LOL, The Dooley Dynasty!

Wow, major props to chatt-townVOL for stepping up, taking responsibility for past mistakes, and acknowledging that this same thread (and the same excuses) get recycled here ad nauseam.

I don't fault any fan for obvious and honest criticism. I lose respect for blanket calls for firings and the sort, but I have no problem with folks pointing out weakness, missed opportunities, or out right failures — from coaching to player execution.

I'll stay very general with my next few statements because in the third day of lamenting the loss, we're simply repeating the same things that have already been posted time and again.
• Fact is we could be doing more on offense to fit what we have while we build what we want.
• Fact is some guys didn't make the plays they could have on Saturday.
• Fact is some guys continued to perform at the top of their game, even when everything was going to pot.
• Fact is even when everything was falling apart, the players are still buying in and giving everything for their team and their university.
• Fact is it's the coach's responsibility to put the each and every player in the best possible position to win.
• Fact is the stadium was absolutely, freaking beautiful and it wasn't our proudest moment when such a setting was tainted by the chants of something that was so unbecoming of such an awe inspiring atmosphere.

Bottom line, I have no problem with any criticism highlighting any of the above "facts."

You get a like from me op. Ugly as this team has been at times over the last few years they have never made me ashamed to wear my orange. The pissed portion of the fan base has embarrassed all of us.
