I read today where our defense was ranked 5th nationally in total defense. Its just so sad to see a championship quality defense get wasted because we cannot get any production out our offense. I dont know why I just have a good feeling about this weekend. I think we are gonna get the W we have been looking for & I think at the end of the game we will have the Defense to thank & they will finally get the credit they deserve.:good!:

I'd wait until Saturday to call it a championship level defense. Most of the offenses we've seen have been putrid.

I agree with u pimpin it is a shame when your defense has kept u in almost every game with the exception of florida who didnt really get much going OFFESIVELY. but yes i agree i think that if the offense can put up at least three td's with a couple FG we can hang close or even win the game! GO VOLS:rock:

I'm with coach31 on this one, let's see how October plays out before we start saying "Championship Quality Defense".

Most of floridas points came off of special team breakdowns and giving them the ball inside the 50. and yea they had a couple FGs. But hey think about it we lost 59-20 last year so compared to last year they really didnt do much offensively.:eek:lol:

I think our defense will keep us in the game for the most of the game, but our inability to put up points will sadly cost us the game at UGA.

dont knock the defense because its the only highlight i have to look forward to on saturdays.

but lets talk about our highly touted offensive line and our non-existent leading rusher.

We have not played a team that can really throw it down field yet. Yeah we played UF but they were more interested in running the ball on us. This saturday we will find out all we need to know about our D.

yea and lets not forget that NIU completely owned the first half on time of posession. i know they did not get get many points but that is time that our offense could not get on the field (not that they done anything this year)

Nothing new, see the Randy Sanders years.

Doesn't it seem like during the years we can't score points, our defense is rock solid under Chavis. But then the years we are putting points on the board, our defense sucks.

Florida had only 243 yards of total offense.
Tennessee had 253 yards of total offense.

The #5 ranking is based upon yards... not points given up.

Majors made a comment that "Chavis has saved Fulmer's job for 10 years".

I think most people would agree to that.

Eventhough we faced bad offenses, OUR offense has given the defense bad field position so many times this year that I can't even count.

I won't list them all, but one thing that Chavis defenses do is look good on the stat sheet.... but in the 4th quarter with the game on the line, they'll give up a game winning drive.

Just a few I'd like to forget:

1996 Memphis 21, Tennessee 17
1999 Arkansas 28, Tennessee 24
2000 Florida 27, Tennessee 23
2001 Georgia 26, Tennessee 24
2005 Alabama 6, Tennessee 3
2005 South Carolina 16, Tennessee 15
2005 Vanderbilt 28, Tennessee 24
2006 LSU 28, Tennessee 24
2008 UCLA 27, Tennessee 24

Man, that list brings up some painful memories...

Chavis does a good job. Our D isn't perfect, but we lack playmakers in the front 7 (aside from Rico). I think it's telling that our D has been so good despite being forced on the field a lot b/c our crappy offense keeps going 3 and out. They barely get a rest and they are still playing lights out. Defense=Good, Special Teams=Bad, Offense=Ugly

What really sucks is how healthy we have stayed this year, but yet we can't win.
Imagine 2006 if Justin Harrell and Inky Johnson would not have been injured.
