Our Defense will be NASTY

This is where the greyshirt and blueshirts come into play. They have already found a way around it. Butch ever figured it out.

Transfers I think just count against the 85 team limit!

Blueshirts are no longer an option, as of April 2017. Greyshirting is still a thing.

I love the idea of the defense being nasty!!! It seems that teams that move the in more of a spread type of way are able to put up points against Alabama. With the trend seeming to be more of these types of offenses, are we sure that this will be the correct adjustments for the type of play that TN will face?

This team should win 6 games easy in 2018.

If we can't be confident that TN will beat ETSU, UTEP, Charlotte, Vandy, KY, and take 1 out of 3 against MO, WVA, and SC, then they may as well put the black curtains up around the upper deck at Neyland and drop to an FCS school.

Wrong. If you watched any college football at all this year, you'd know rankings this far out means nothing. Even rankings right up to the start means nothing as can be seen for us, the Gators, and FSU with the terrible seasons.

Florida State is an outlier. They lost their starter who was a Heisman contender in The first game.

To say they had an under expectation season is not right. It’s because of injuries at key positions including QB

We need at least three years of top 5 classes to look like Bama and Georgia.

So true, and hopefully we will get there. I will be happy with the defense until then if they can quit giving up 30+ points a game. Hard for an offense to keep up with that.
I do long for the day, hopefully soon, when we can score 42 and give up no tds to a legit team, not a small tier one.

Doesn't matter, next man up right? Championship game was a perfect example of that with Tua. You say it's an outlier but that's exactly why the polls don't matter in preseason. When their qb was injured, the score was 24-7 and it didn't change. It shows against a good team they weren't going to go far anyways.

Georgia lost 31 Seniors and will lose maybe up to 5 juniors. I expect Trent Thompson to be gone.

By my count, Georgia is losing 29 Seniors. Of those 29, 13 played keys roles this season:
Sony Michel
Nick Chubb
Javon Wims
Lorenzo Carter
Malkom Parrish
Davin Bellamy
Dominick Sanders
Aaron Davis
Reggie Carter
Isaiah Wynn
Jeb Blazevich
John Atkins
Cameron Nizialek

The one Junior that most believe will declare early is Roquan Smith. Trent Thompson has kind of-sort of indicated he will return, but he hasn't made it official. Deandre Baker is also considering leaving early.

Not to state the obvious, but all college football teams lose key players every year. The more successful teams like Bama, just reload because of how well they recruit year after year, after year. Saban took over coaching Bama in 2007. It took until 2011 for him to recruit the #1 class according to the 247sports composite. Bama has since claimed the #1 class in 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, and 2017. Georgia had the #6 class in 2015 and 2016, #3 in 2017, and is currently sitting at #1 in 2018. Georgia has plenty of talent to replace the players leaving, but IMO they are still behind Bama by one or two years. Georgia is probably closer to Clemson and OSU in talent right now than it is to Bama.

We have beat Georgia 2 out of the last 3 years. They are not that far ahead of us. They lose Sony Michell and Nick Chubb, so they won’t be able to turn and hand the ball off 45 times a game like they did this year. That means Trent Dilfer, I mean Jake Fromm will actually have to make some throws. I look for Georgia to take a couple steps back next season and be very beatable if we can get our offense on track.

Chubb and Sony get replaced with Swift, Zamir White, Cook, Holyfield and Herrien. The OL will be much better at run blocking and pass protection in 2018. Andrew Thomas will be moved to LT to replace Wynn. Baker will likely start at LG, but will probably be replaced by 5* Jamaree Sayler at some point during the season. Gaillard returns at center, Cleveland returns at RG, and RT will be a battle between 5* Isaiah Wilson and 5* Cade Mays.

Chubb and Michel were great RBs, but the key to the offense will be the OL. Bama totally shut down Chubb because the OL couldn't open any holes. Payne was unblockable, and overall Georgia struggled moving Bama's front four. Same thing happened when Georgia played Bama in 2015.

Not really, especially when you consider that UGA has only had 1 top 5 class in the last 5 years. What we need is a staff that can be consistently develope the players they bring in. I think that’s what we have on the defensive side.

Call me crazy but I think you see results in year one. Top 5 defense in the SEC. That’s how good he is, so when we actually have depth and talented players all around, we will be a force. The SEC East is going to be back on the upswing. UGA is going to be really good for years, but they always choke when it matters. UF will be good under Mullen. And I believe Pruitt Will have us back in a couple years. Also, Muschamp is a way better coach the 2nd time around at SC. And Mizzou hired Dooley as their OC! Okay that last one was a joke.

Top 5 in the SEC? I hope you're correct; however, I doubt it. CP is going to be a great HC, but after the burning dung old butch left us, I just don't see it. Top 5 in SEC, should put us in the top 10-15 teams in the nation.

I mostly agree With you.
But we're not nearly as bad off as most think.

Butch was a walking team divider. He created a toxic culture where the kids could never really believe in success.

Go down the board. Look at the recruiting rankings of the players. AND then consider how they played as freshman. Before the culture poisened them.

Are depth. And ofcourse we will get impact freshman. Very good ones.

Offense...

Chandler
Callaway
Jennings??

Provide playmaking ability. These 3 can play for anyone.

The line is talented. Butch NEVER had a good line. Yet..he inherited 4 NFL lineman his first year. What does that tell you.

Need a QB.
I personally think McBride can be damn good. Give him the keys...

Banks and A. Taylor are probably starters. Banks will get as many carrues as Chandler.

So there is good talent there still. Just not a lot.

2018 Recruiting class will definitely be needed

This is seriously one of the funniest and most delusional comments I have read in a long time. Thank you for the chuckle. Those "urnge" colored glasses are blinding you big time.

Have we not beat them 2 out of the last 3 years? Are they not losing the 2 best players on their team to graduation? I don’t think you need “urnge” colored glasses to concede those facts.

Have they not recruited the #1 class in the country, including the #1 Dual QB, the #1 RB and the #1 OG? Their class has 6 , that's 6 five stars. I don't believe I have ever seen a class get that many. They have 3 of the top ten HS players coming. Already have Probably the freshman QB of the year and possible the coach of the year. They have 9 players(almost 18%) of the top 50 players, we have 1. I know where my heart is but I also know where I would place my money. :hi:

PS not to mention they have us at home next year.

You're forgetting Maurese Smith. Guy is a 330 pound D-lineman. He's gonna surprise some folks if Fitzgerald is as legit as everyone is saying in terms of S&C.
