Our Defense in SEC play

9 tackles for loss
5 sacks
3 turnovers.

UT isn't good in zone defense and the linebackers aren't good in coverage at all (minus Carter)
also missing two starting CBs...........

Hold teams to 28 points and UT wins out..........

For the most part we are winning the trench battle, and that makes no sense that the back end of the defense is failing. I hope it is a glitch we have fix for coming soon. Scheme.
That last touch down by the Hogs was embarrassing. We had 5 or 6 in the Endzone and 1 Hog. The open receiver was untouched no one close to him 3 yds. It looked like we were playing Prevent Defense in the Endzone

we cant tackle ! and we're chasing arky all over the field !!
We can tackle when we are in position to make the tackle. We have some problems with our safties and linebackers being out of position because of bad reads, especially against misdirection plays. We still have problems playing zone defense. Maybe we don’t have the players to plays zone, or maybe they have not been coached well enough to play it. However, the problem is becoming more clear as the season rolls along and it needs to be corrected if we want to compete for playoffs.

They were the coordinators last year too. So they sucked last year too?

No the defense wasn’t “great” last year and that is always the fall back for the Banks apologist. The defense had a couple of great players last year who weren’t developed or coached by Banks in Pierce and McCoy. McCoy came from the portal as a great player and Pierce was coached by the best member of the defensive staff. The defense couldn’t get off the field in key moments last season. Tennessee was 90th in 2021, 36th in 22’, 23rd in 23’, 7th in 24’, and currently 105th in pts allowed. Tennessee was 69th in an SEC only schedule in 20’ before Banks arrived which is a highly skewed number. Has the defense improved from an offense that couldn’t stay on the field? Yes, but it has been pretty obvious that they cannot get off the field against even decent offenses when needed.

We see the same issues every game is my concern. The ends don't set an edge so the outside run or QB scramble to the outside is there. A zone that stays 5 yards away from a receiver until they catch the ball makes no sense when you are trying to get off the field.
