I believe I know weather just fineUh no. I think you need to walk outside and check the weather again. I’m not seeing anyone say or even imply they are looking for championships “now”. That’s ridiculous and not reflecting the temperature of the fan base. Let’s just start with no further turdburger performances that litter Beldars history.
It’s also quite telling to hear someone say Beldar is “learning on the job”. I’m sure that will provide great comfort to the fans.![]()
You're not seeing the whole picture. We got 70 yards in the second half because we had no choice but to throw the ball, something we're not good at, particularly with a QB that already threw 2 pick sixes.
Not only that, but they scored 17 points without getting a single first down in the first half (they got first downs just not on those scoring "drives"). We also cost ourselves points when Chandler knocked the ball out of JGs hand. That's a 20-24 point swing. One of those pick sixes was on another drive where it looked like we'd score a touchdown or at least get a field goal. That takes that count up to 23-31 points we left on the field.
I'm not excusing the play, but the bottom line is you can't turn the ball over 4 times and expect to win. They started controlling the game when we gave up.
First Jeremy inherited the worst roster and foundation than did Butch. We lost to Vandy 3 straight that is very telling. I was fortunate to be in practices and weight lifting sessions during Butch years and the red flags were apparent. 2nd. Butch to his credit early found his QB that by his 3rd year kept us in games and had a nice crop of Tennessean's Hurd Malone Barnette Maybin and then hit JUCO lotto with Kamara. NFL Team but he did nothing with it what so ever and the foundation he should be building was Paper not Brick. NOW we are asking Coach P to rebuild this mess but we want him to win a championship now. Last Coach P has made mistakes in this process one he is learning on the job 2. His offense system he wants to run needs a power back TE that can play with depth and of course a QB. He is addressing the power back in this class and the TE commitments he has is outstanding. We will see if Bailey develops and to go with Salter coming in he has in the future what he needs to succeed. The line of scrimmage that was decimated when he took over he is rebuilding as well it takes time. Again I am disappointed with Saturday Result and it needs to be better but I am willing to give JP the time needed to truly rebuild this program the right way. No shortcuts back to the top. How was Tennessee's roster in 2018nworse than Arkansas' roster this year that Sam Pittman inherited ir the rosters that good coaches like Dan Mullin, Nick Saban, Hugh Freeze, James Franklin, or others inherited. Good coaches find ways to win.
How come Ole Miss, Arkansas, Miss State, etc. Can have coaches come in and start winning 9-10 games by year 3.
Heck even Franklin won 9 games by year 2 at Vanderbilt. Don't give me the lame talent argument. Vandy! 9 wins!
Opinion: Jeremy Pruitt Is Coaching Like A Poor Man’s Butch Jones
It is now been over 24 hours since Tennessee’s humiliating 34-7 loss to Kentucky in Neyland Stadium and this loss stings even more.
That was Kentucky’s first win over the Vols in Neyland Stadium since 1984. 36 Years. You thought that stat was bad? Well, buckle up.
The last time a Kentucky football team defeated the Vols by 27? 1935. No, I am not joking. 1935. Literally the last time Kentucky won by that margin was before World War II.
I have seen a lot of terrible moments in my 22 years of life as a Tennessee fan. The embarrassing loss to Wyoming in 2008, LSU and UNC in 2010, Oklahoma in 2015, Florida in 2017 and Georgia State last year, just to name a few.
This tops the list and it ain’t even close. This loss feels much worse than the Georgia State game. I have tried to give this guy opportunity after opportunity. Folks, this guy is not the answer and it is beyond obvious. We are in year three of the Jerry Pruitt era and we are getting blown out by freaking Kentucky at home.
We are not even competitive against Kentucky. We are paying a football coach over $4 million a year and this is the end result. We have a coach who refuses to give any other QB an opportunity. I have never seen a coach give a quarterback as many opportunities as Pruitt has given to Jarrett Guarantano.
Guarantano throws two straight pick-sixes, you only give J.T. Shrout three plays as an opportunity, and you bring back Guarantano onto the field? What logic does that make?
It is year three now and we still do not have a QB. Pruitt has failed to develop Guarantano into being a competent QB. Sure, you can make the excuses that he has had a couple different OC’s and QB coaches. But this all comes down to the head coach. This is just inexcusable.
No one expected him to be a world-beater, but Guarantano is still making freshman mistakes. Having the same game plan and expecting different results week in and week out is the definition of insanity. Pruitt, yesterday, in the post-game press conference blamed his masks as part of the loss.
No this is not a joke, he literally said his mask caused communication issues. These excuses are just pathetic. These type of excuses are something Butch Jones would say.
You know what, Pruitt is a poor man’s Butch Jones. In fact, I would argue that he is worse than Jones.
29 games into his tenure at Tennessee, Jones was 14-15. Pruitt is 15-14. Yes, Pruitt’s record is better than Jones’ so far. But here is the difference between the two’s tenures.
Butch’s teams got better and were competitive against Florida and Oklahoma by year three. We are losing to Kentucky by 27 at home. This team and program is going backwards.
This team literally quit in the 3rd quarter when Kentucky scored their third touchdown. At least when it came to Butch’s teams, they would wait until November before they quit. At least Jones’ teams were fairly competitive against Florida and Georgia. At least Jones’ teams beat Kentucky.
We haven’t even made it halfway to the season and this team has appeared to quit. Much like this team, this fanbase is starting to quit on this football program. Alabama rolls into town this weekend and that will be a loss before we have a week off.
Pruitt and this team need to get it together and salvage this season in the second half of the season. But, if we continue to see what we saw Saturday, Tennessee isn’t winning another game this year.
there in nothing lame about what I posted. I gave this board some truth and believe me I was behind the scenes during Butch years to know why the foundation crumbled. Every instance and rebuild are different. Talent left at some schools are better like Bama Ga and the whole of the SEC Landscape can be completely different. you and many only want to point to single games lost by Pruitt and why I am disappointed with the results from Saturday I am not ready to write this coach off knowing what challenge he had and knowing that he also had a learning curve in the toughest league in football. Again maybe he is not the guy we will know soon enough. Dumb take. Pruitt is a football coach. Butch is a motivational speaker.
We have deep threats in Jones and Hyatt, but they have to wait on the ball since JG is late in throwing...I would start a game by going deep to Hyatt to loosen up the defense if nothing else...We lost by 4 touchdowns and mustered a grand total of 70 yards of total offense the 2nd half. On what planet is that not being manhandled? Our qb didn't decide not to block on several plays this season and we have zero deep threats on offense. We aren't on the cusp of anything outside of mediocrity
so we just fire the man tomorrow I suppose you are a heavy donor and are going to donate few Million to help in buyout. If you are not ready to fire him today then all your arguing for is Moot. In CHRIST AloneWe need to stop getting coaches that have learning curves and start getting brash coaches that can win games like other SEC programs have done.
Do you know that Tennessee is even behind the Mississippi teams when you look at success this decade. You can't use the talent argument because these other schools have won more games in the SEC and have been more relevant with less talent than what was on Tennessee's roster, even the talent left by Butch Jones.
You can't tell me James Franklin had more to work with in year 2 at Vanderbilt when he went 9-4 or that Dan Mullin had less talent to work with when he started winning 8-9 games in year 2-3 at Miss State.
How about Bobby Petrino at Arkansas who took over a losing program and won 9 games in year 2?
You can't tell me Nick Saban had a lot to work with when he took over for Mike Shula at Alabama but he was already winning a national title in year 3. (Similarly, he beat a Phil Fulmer coached, highly talented, #2 ranked Tennessee team to win the SEC Championship in 2001 as a 2nd year coach at LSU).
The difference is I guess they are usually in the game on the third quarter. We've oftentimes found ourselves not in a close game by the time the 4th quarter starts. You nailed it when you said the team "gave up". When was the last time you saw a Nick Saban, Urban Meyer, Dabo Swinney, or any other good to great coached team give up?
This is pretty accurate. Here's the thing...I think Pruitt knows his stuff...Butch's idea of strategy was to have small and quick OL in the SEC.Dumb take. Pruitt is a football coach. Butch is a motivational speaker.
Possible but I doubt it. There will be Portland/Seattle like protests In Downtown Knoxville if that happens.JG will be our first 6th year QB next year. Jerry Colquitt applied for 6th and was turned down but I guess JG gets a Covid freebie.
It's like deja-vu, all over again...YOGI
We were talented enough to beat Kentucky by the same margin they beat us. They are trash and this season will show that in DecemberI know people like to act like KY is trash because they've been bad for so long. But KY is a good football team they beat MS State 34-2 a week prior. And when you spot a good football team 14 free points, you're gonna have a bad day. Pruitt didn't turn the ball over 3 times in a span of about 5-10 minutes. That's on JG.
I know many of you want to blame Pruitt on starting JG in the first place. But it isn't like Shrout did any better, and Bailey hasn't had much practice due to COVID protocols. I don't know what's going on with Maurer that he fell to 4th on the depth chart.
