NORMAN I know Im supposed to have turned the corner toward a new Oklahoma game week, but I cant shake what I just experienced in Knoxville, Tennessee.
What an unforgettable trip.
Tennessee fans were as cordial as the ones at Alabama in 2003. Southern hospitality, indeed.
They were as passionate as the ones at Texas A&M during the Aggies upset of OU in 2002. Man, Neyland Stadium is loud.
I was down on the field for the last five minutes of regulation, and Ill never forget what a hundred thousand fans belting out Rocky Top sounds like. To hear that from the Vols checkerboard crowd is the coolest fan moment Ive experienced at a college football game since hearing Saw Varsitys Horns Off from A&M supporters who are literally swaying Kyle Field back and forth.
Before Saturdays game, I strolled Neyland Drive and admired the Vol Navy down on the Tennessee River. I even noticed a few boats that had been commandeered by OU fans. They seemed to be enjoying the unique scene as much as I was.
