OU names Baker Mayfield starter

You guys do realize he was a true freshman walk-on QB when he played at Texas Tech right?

Texas Tech sucked with a very bad Oline. He got sacked 24 times at Tech, but still completed 64% of his passes.

I think he is a gamer. And beating out their 2 year starter at QB is no small feat

I don't think vn understands how hard it's going to be to get a w against OU.. a win will be absolutely huge n a loss could set us up for a long season.

Lose to OU n the pressure on the fla game for this team might be to much to over come especially if they get behind after losing to OU.

I will be turning flips if we win the OU game.

We win this game easy with a good OL but we dont have one, we just cant get blown away or it could get ugly quick, a lot on here dont want to hear this but we are still a young football team, we are still a year away from winning the East with the OL problems we got.

This kid was a walk-on at Texas Tech and transferred to Oklahoma... Idk enough to comment on this kid, but OU may be in trouble if their best QB was once a walk-on... Pls tell me if my perception into this matter is orange shaded.

VN at its finest. I don't enough to comment and then comments that OU may be in trouble. Yep,very orange glasses

Will be a big test for that young man, on the road and Neyland should be rocking! I suspect they will lean on their RBs early in this game. Just need to get in his head and it could go down hill fast for him.

Somebody needs to light a fire on BIG CHARLES AND BLAIR azz and get them going, where we can kick there azz like they did to us last year, i know there is no hope for BLAIR but just looking from a distance when you are looking at Blair its like what happen with the size, he looks like a NFL tackle.

Not sure every OU fan is surprised, or even excited about Mayfield being named the starter. We will see just how far he goes with the Air Raid offense. Yes, the kid was a walk-on at Texas Tech. Even so, walk-ons have been known to make their mark (ie, ask NEB). OU's line is not AS experienced as the one that will take the field this year against the VOLS, but I wouldn't sell them short just yet. I would point out that the WR corps that played against the VOLS last year was weak. Outside of Sheppard, we didn't have anybody step up. This year, we feel that the WR corps, with the addition of Westbrook, the #2 JUCO WR last year, and the progress of Quick, Neal and Mead, Mayfield may have better options than Knight did last year. Your D-line and D overall concerns me, but until your FR make a statement on the field, we (Nor the VN, really) can say for certain that your frontline D is all that. I hope OU wins, sure. I'll take a loss as long as it's competitive.

Baker mayfield...in the future might be known as the guy barnett, magitt, and Phillips played pinball with. He'll be the ball in that equation. Lol

Of course the VNers want UT to win but I think if it's a good close game I would tolerate a loss (would never be okay with a loss). I want to see what Dobbs can with a full year as starter and I would like to see improvement carried over from the end of last year.

Good run game, so so OL, good defenses... if this game comes down to QB play our boys should have this one... Lets.just hope its equal everywhere else for the upset (by.rankings)

With their new offense, he'll get 10 carries tops.

It's a true Hal Mumme air raid offense. Not like Briles or Sumlin's versions.

Not even close. The air raid was implemented to get our passing game back where we want it, not to make us one dimensional. We will run the ball early and often.

My apologies, didn't see the blue font part

I know we use the blue font around here alot.. I believe most if not all respects y'all's RB and the OU team.. Can't wait to see where we are, this game is very important to know how good we are going to be this yr.

If he starts at QB I hope he finishes the game at QB. We have not had much success with replacements in the past.

A few salient points. The Vol have the advantage at QB, not because of a weak OU QB but because of the multi-dimensional guy you have. The OU O-line is the big question mark. We return only 2 starters. One tackle has played a lot but the new LT will apparently be a RS freshman and the LG has no experience to speak of. Our D front 7 is the strength of our team. As a group very physical, athletic, & fast. With all due respect to Georgia I will put our stable of RB's up against anyone. Our WR unit should be much improved....lots of talent around the returning Sterling Shepherd. The 2nd question mark for OU is the secondary. On paper they look good but the proof will be in the pudding. I have said this in other threads. This game reminds me of our away game in Talahassee. We buried the Noles in Norman but the next game down there was a physical war that went down to the late 4th qtr.
