OU game in proper perspective

The OP discusses perspective and when someone has a different opinion/perspective then his he replys with a smart alec comment but when another poster calls him out on it he says the forum is for discussion and debating. Now that is funny.

In MY perspective all the games are important. I want to see UT win them all. That doesn't mean they will though. I know there are going to be mishaps/injuries/issue during the season that will cost us but I still want to win every damn game.

You're entitled to have your own opinion or perspective of how you see it but don't pissy if someone else's doesn't mirror yours.

Considering where the program has been and all of the really, really bad streaks UT has going. EVERY game including this one is "big". I think USCe two years ago is UT's only win vs a ranked opponent out of maybe the last 25 or so. Ending that streak would be a significant step forward. While like the OP I would not trade that one game for ALL of those games... I could be real satisfied with OU plus 3 or 4 of them.

But the opportunity is there, and with a great game this team can take the potential of this season up a notch or two. It's big, and has the opportunity to put us in a place we haven't been for a long time.

Wait...are you saying that opportunity is now here? :)

If you're one of these fans that doesn't think this OU game is a must win......then you're a moron. This is the biggest game for our program since 2007. Do I need to remind everyone of our record against ranked teams since Fulmer left?

The people already trying to make excuses for this game if we lose are pathetic. Ya'll need to have the rest of the "Dooley" beaten out of you.

Wow. Just when I think our fan base has scraped the bottom.

I don't think so. If people try and put words in my mouth(post) I call them on it. I use logic and thought in my reasoning. This is NOT the biggest game we play this year for our program. UF is MUCH bigger.

I actually went out of my way to avoid that exact phrase.:hi:

God I hate Dooley.

Props to you, you used "opportunity" in 4 posts without ever hitting that phrase. The whole Dooley nightmare encapsulated in one little phrase.

What can I say, it was a hanging curve and I just couldn't lay off.

No one put any words in your mouth friend. Other poster are expressing their opinions and you're getting worked up because they differ from yours. You can say I use logic and thought in your reasoning but so do the other posters. It's all opinions whether it's yours or theirs.

When Butch channels Lombardi, talking about how we have to learn to win again ... his observations apply to the fan base, too.

As Doyle pointed out months ago, this is perhaps the last and most tenacious of Dooley's "gifts" to the program: defeatism.

We're getting it washed away, folks are rediscovering the pride of old in being a Vol fan. Just gonna take time, more for some than others.

not sure if it's time, or just needed a result. i know i've had enough time.

a win Saturday would go a loooong way....end a couple of losing streaks we got going right now....be bowl eligible before November......

you get the idea.

Fair enough. You're a 'proof not faith' kind of guy, Jake. That's okay. You won't win any awards for foresight, but you won't be wrong as often, either. I can understand the lure of that approach.

As for me, I got faith in Butch and the boys of 119.

LOL. good news i guess is, i'm not trying to?

you were right about the defeatism aspect of the last 7 years. the kiffin and dooley debacles have really brought things back down to Earth. maybe too much.

but yeah, gone are the days, for now anyway, where i just "know" we're gonna be able to win any game we play.

Faith works best in other ways though. just not TN football at the moment. and that doesn't mean i don't believe in what they are doing from a process standpoint, cause i do.

Had to give you a like on this. I wonder if the players think this is a must win game, wonder if the coaches think this is a must win game, wonder if the AD thinks this is a must win game. Of Course they do! Should we the fans think any less? NO!! OP I almost get what your trying to say but the reality of your post is still setting us up for "It's ok if we lose" and that's a loser mentality...

I hope we win every game. Every win is important to me as a Vfl. Im not ok with losing. Never will be, I understand that you cant win them all but d@mn it, not gonna stop me from thinking we can. We have the oppurtunity to win every game we play, and you play to win. Call me crazy or irrational but I cant stand to lose and I cant stand to see my Vols lose. Heck i cant stand to lose to my daughters at candyland. Just win for the love of god! Its attitude not aptitude!

While I agree that SEC matchups are more important, with all the hype that has gone into the game from both the Athletic program and the fans it has turned into a must win game if for nothing more than a mentality change. If we go in and win that shows how Butch has changed the program. If we go in and sh!t the bed then it's just the same as the past 4 yrs IMO.

Neyland stadium will be electric starting around the time the National Anthem is played - the first time the Maxims will be put up on the Jumbotron, the running through the T, the checkered stadium.

I know our defense looked a little suspect against BG, but I think, if I was on the visiting team rolling in there with that atmosphere, it would get in my head.

Forget Bowling Green. These players have been working for THIS NIGHT all Summer. I can't wait to see what wrinkles they have held back and reveal. Hit OU in the mouth right out of the gate, keep the crowd in it, and they'll be deer in the headlights.

Uhhh you may want to read the posts again. Some have said I was already making excuses, or I said it was "ok" to lose. Some said I was saying we are already defeated etc. None of which was correct and I pointed that out. Just as I'm pointing this out to you.
In case you missed it I stated this game is not the be all end all game nor the biggest on our schedule.

A lot of the circumstances around this game remind me of that infamous Cal game. I hope it ends up the same way.

I rewatched that game the other day and posted about it in another thread. There are a lot of similarities. Here's hoping for a similar outcome!

Beating a ranked team is always important to our program. Always. And never more than now, when our HC is being called out for going 1-11 against ranked teams at UT.

Until a few weeks ago, I thought this game was one we could drop with minimal fallout. But that's changed. UT-OK has catapulted into the spotlight, and it has become a marquee game on a weekend where only a handful of games have generated more interest or will define the trajectory of a program more publicly. There's so much more on the line now. It's two ranked teams that are well-known but seldom meet, and we're carrying the SEC banner against a bigmouth coach and braggart players who have practically thrown a gauntlet.

Is losing a season-killer? No. But it's our house... our year... our opportunity... and holy crap, we need to win! So GBDO!
