Other head coach options (merged)

I would gladly take Kelly, but I just cannot see it happening. From a financial standpoint as well as cultural and regional differences. Up until very recently I was a solid hell no on Petrino, but the last several weeks have brought me to a point where I think that we could get him for a more realistic price. I also think that he is probably at a point in his career where he is ready to be a model citizen and coach.I mean Louisville is not a bad gig, but we are the damn University of Tennessee Volunteers!

What about Greg Schiano? He was great at Rutgers before leaving for the NFL. Currently with Urban at OSU.

No I am judging him on if he can adjust, can he coach defense good enough. Just a throw party isn't going to work, it worked in the pac because there wasn't near the talent of defenses like there are in the sec. The few times they faced the physical teams his struggled. When he went to philly, he struggled. That's what concerns me, can he coach D enough to play with the big boys. Can he run a balanced offense???? Them are my concerns.

I'm sure this has already been outlined but just in case it hasn't.

1. His defenses only gave up 20pts/game in the high scoring pac 12.

2. In the national championship game thaymt he lead his team to they held Auburn, who had the heisman winning QB, and was averaging 43pts per game against the vaunted SEC defenses to only 22pts. So, so against SEC defenses Auburn averaged 43pts and against Oregon, who you claim didn't play defense, they scored 22pts....

3. His offense is not pass based, they are a run first offense and averaged over 300yds rushing per game

These address and disprove all of your points of argument I have seen so far.

there are no regional differences with chip kelly

Had to go watch to really remember how good it was. YouTube Oregon offense and watch how nasty and fast paced that was . It’s pretty impressive, there’s a few clips of it while Chip Kelly was there

Would Tn be willing to pay 7 mil to get a Kelly or Venables ?

Tennessee would not have to pay close to that for either one. Veneables is a DC making 1.7 million. Could probably hire at 3 million. Chip made 2.8 million at oregon and 6.5 at the eagles. Could probably get for 5-5.75

7 mil for Venables? Seriously? I think that guy is an unbelievable DC and would love for him to run any of my teams D anytime. But he's never been a head coach. Yes, Kirby Smart you'll say, but for every Kirby(who still hasn't proved much as of yet), there's a Mike Stoops, Will Muschamp, Mark Helfrich, etc. Guys who are great coordinators but haven't amounted to much as HC's. If you're going to break out the big bucks this time, you go after someone who's been a pretty successful HC. Someone where you can at least see their body of work. But, if Venables is your guy, you're not paying him 7 mil his first year. Just my opinion.

Just thought I'd see how people felt about Morris from Smu. Has improved that program a ton has ties to the southeast from his Clemson days and is an excellent recruiter.
