In the second OT, the foul was committed after a change of possession (recovered blunked punt). By rule, that was the difference.

They got it right on both accounts.

If you say so. I don't see where a rule excusing any penalty should be valid.

That is a dangerous rule. Technically, anyone could have clipped Berry, helmet-to-helmet shots, blocks below the back, and of course, hard face masks. Stupid, dangerous rule.

Thems the rules.

Of course, until the NCAA changes them, the referee's have no choice but to enforce them as their written.

It was the smartest thing the announcers said all night when they said that penalty shouldn't have been called in a game like this when what is at stake for the Vols.

Anyone have an email address for the NCAA, I would like to comment on that play as well, I thought Berry would have scored otherwise, and was dangerous.

the fumble wasn't recovered by anyone in the endzone.. it was kicked out and actually went out of bounds around the 1 yard line I beleive

I thought that was a very questionable call. Then to top it all off, a penality then does carry over, to the home team's advantage.

He could have snapped Berry's neck easily with that facemask. Berry was running full-tilt across the field and got jerked down by the facemask.

The rule needs to be changed.

They did as far as enforcing the penalty, but I absolutely cannot believe that flag was thrown on Foster for tossing the ball after being tackeld. He didn't throw it at somebody or taunt the opponent, he simply slung it back into the field of play out of frustration.

There is no way an official can justify flagging that with the SEC championship in the balance, and I'd say the same thing if it were Tebow or DJ Hall.

NCAA needs to seriously look at changing that rule. Had Berry not been facemasked, he a a good shot of taking it back to the house. Give the team that took possession one series from the 10 to score with no return possesion from the opposing team to even it out and prevent clips, facemasks, ect. from being used to bail yourself out when something like this happens.

So they could have basically brought every player off the bench to be sure he doesn't get a TD and it's fine? This is the dumbest most BS rule ever. This makes it OK to do whatever the hell you want if there is an INT or fumble or whatever during OT.

I know that the rule is in place but if that is the case, could you hypothetically run a player off the sideline and tackle the ball returner? If the penalties are to be ignored then isn't that possible?

I say they just miscalled it in that situation, because they did later call that one on Arian that somehow carried over, even after a-hole explained how they don't.
