I just wanted to come here to say that while I absolutely ADORE Andraya Carter and her brilliant, energetic takes, I feel like Chiney Ogwumike has edged out Carter a bit when it comes to being able to handle big assignments with confident ease.

I suspect Chiney is going to be sitting in one of the Big Chairs within 5 years. She is a phenomenal talent.

Now, that’s not to say that Carter is now chopped liver. She’s an amazing talent and will continue to grow. But as of right now, I’m feeling like Chiney has made such strides in recent months that I feel she has made a good case for being considered the top young commentator.

Is anyone else obsessively gauging the progress of these talented young female sports commentary personalities, or is it just my silly thing?

P.S. For the last couple of years I had Carter at the top of the list of new young voices, but just in the last few months C.O. overtook A.C. in my mind. I feel like Carter could get right back to the top if she got the right assignments. Both women are phenomenal.

What say you?

I always enjoyed watching and evaluating the whole sports telecasting scene, so if I had TV I'd be jumping in with you on this.

Executives and public opinion make TV into such a weird filter for determining "success." A highly accurate, personable weather forecaster loses his job to a cue card reader whose only meteorological asset is a map-obscuring perpetual warm front.

John Madden's rise was the biggest surprise (and lesson) to me. Into the NFL broadcasting booth arrives a Super Bowl winning NFL coach, with (still, to this day) the highest winning percentage for 100+ games. Beyond that, he was known as a natural teacher, and had earned a Masters degree in Education before becoming a head coach.

But does he offer insights into the inner strategies of the game? Does he explain why a play did or did not work? No! He ascends to incredible popularity by dumbing down the game and punctuating his remarks with Batman-level onomatopoeia!

Unless I have missed it, it seems that Chiney also gets NBA related spots on SC and other ESPN shows whereas Draya seems to be in the WNBA box. If that is the case, Chiney is ahead of her in the ticking order.

Agree both are very good. I sometimes feel that Chiney goes a bit overboard on the enthusiastic pundit persona whereas I think Draya is a little more natural but ESPN seems to like ebullience.

Side note, Kara Lawson called the Fever-Valkyres game last night,
