I must have missed the bus because I'm definitely still in Iraq.
VolsDeep: There are still way to many contractors here and the majority of them that are being paid by the American taxpayer are not even Americans.

50,000 are expected to stay and train, and should be out at the latest end of 2011. All troups are to be back in the USA by the end of 2012. Can't wait till they all come home.

I must have missed the trip home as well. I don't care what the news says, not a word of it is true.

A little sad news for those who don't realize..... the "combat troops" are not gone....I'm Infantry and I'm still here.....you can never have no combat troops here.....we are just now in an "advise and assist" role now, but we are still here

How many troops (not labeled combat) troops will stay in Iraq and for how long? I bet the word "combat" is meant to make it sound like we are leaving when there will be some sort of very large "peace time" or other term for the troops we leave over there for a long time.

I know first hand that there is some troops that is coming home this month but most units are being replaced with other units as I speak. My wife is currently in Iraq with 3rd ID and her unit is waiting to be replaced by another unit and we still have 2 other units thats deployed right now.
Dont believe everything you hear on the news.
Yankee Vol is right on this.

Nothing we say will help , but I will say it anyway. Thank you for what you are doing. No matter what anyone thinks is right or wrong at this point , it just doesn't matter. Because when it comes down to it , you are there doing what you have been told to do. I hope JM , Big H and Yankee and tnv72's wife all make it back. They might not show what's happening on the 'news' much anymore , but we haven't forgot any of you. God be with you and Go Big Orange!

Why would Fox want to cover anything that paints a positive picture of Obama? Fox blows. Welcome back boys!

MSNBC and FOX both blow. It's easy to see both of their political agendas. CNN kinda reports the news neutrally but it really depends on who the host of the news show is.

So basically US troops are still in Iraq until end of 2012. Isn't that what McCain wanted as well?

I've been in the service for the past ten years. I believe we will have troops in Iraq for decades to come. The Korean War ended in the 1950's and we still have around 30,000 service members in South Korea. We have invested too much in American blood and treasure to just walk away. I'm not saying I agree with going into Iraq in the first place, but I don't see us completely pulling out any time soon.

Largest deposit in the world, recently discovered worth billions. It is also the largest poppy producer. Opium demand rivals that of oil.

Recently reported, I doubt they just happened to stumble upon this cache. As far as the opium goes, how else are you going to make all of those pain pills? Can't have medical marijuana when pharma can't patent it and make billions!

From what I read on CNN no contractors will be allowed to be in Iraq, if they want to stay they have to join the Iraq army services

Karzai to Afghan contractors: Join us or leave – This Just In - CNN.com Blogs

The way I understand that article it is talking about contractors in Afghanistan.

I see no way Iraq can hope to pull itself up by the bootstraps if there aren't a very large contingent of contractors helping out, most likely for the next 5 to 10 years. Iraq is a mess and has been for long time, it will most likely implode in the near future, JMO.
