Orgeron Staying in NFL?

just honestly believe if he couldn't bring his guys with him (Caldwell and Brooks), he would have ended up going to Clemson.

For conservation purposes, what do I need to know about Caldwll and Brooks?

Not a peep on these two guys onLSU boards BTW. but that means nothing

Both are good coaches, Brooks is a better coach though. Caldwell is a much better recruiter. He takes AR, OK, and that area. Brooks is a Carolinas guy. Brooks coaches DTs and Caldwell coaches DEs.

You will probably have to switch up personnel though. Chief runs a system very similar to Monte. By that, I mean he likes smaller, quicker players that may be undersized but create mismatches because of their speed.

I have a lot of respect for Dan Brooks. Caldwell too, but Brooks is the better of the two. If Chavis can only get one, he would be better off for ya.

They are both solid coaches.

I don't think Chavis would have gone to LSU without having a deal to bring at least one coach with him. Clemson told him he couldn't bring anyone, and that is his home. If the deal was the same at both schools, he would be at Clemson
LSU had to counter, and ended up offering more money! somewhere around 360k at Clemson versus 500k plus!

Coaches maybe a part in it.. One thing LSU Miles learned this year is that your friends can your seat real hot real fast!

I have to learn to not underestimate Les Miles. Insiders say he is a heady businessman

I think that FG had a bit of a message behind it to the front office...

And yes I am a Kiffin fan, but if he sends Daniel Lincoln out for a 76 yard FG...or a 50 yard field goal for that matter...I'll throw something at him from my seat in section U...

Word...:eek:lol: I'll support Kiff, and I think you're right if CLK goes for it on 4th and the length of Tennessee just to prove a point I'll support that because I believe in statement calls. CLK is that kind of coach. BALLSY:rock:

I'm not basing it on what ESPN says...

They rarely ever break any news. However, Low does a pretty good job of keeping up with the SEC.

Chris Low was on WWL with Bobby Hebert and Mike Detillier tonight and was asked what he thought Orgeron would do.

He said that his opinion may change 10 times between now and the end but right now he thinks he'll end up at TN. He certainly did not sound like he had inside information that a deal was done. He sounded like he was making his best guess based on the information he has.

Im proud of you man.:good!:

I have met Brooks on more than one occasion, the guy knows what he's doing.

I agree with HV though, Caldwell is the better recruiter. But as a pure coach, Brooks is quality.

I honestly don't think Orgeron is for sure what he wants. That's why even guys like Hebert who know him well are unsure.

His family is a huge reason why he hasn't fully committed one way or another IMO.
I still have my gut that says it is a 2 team race...Vols or Saints...

You could be right,

I am curious, do you ever check LSU boards? - Football | Recruiting | Basketball | Baseball | Sports is the best free board IMHO

I can promise you that there is more interest and threads about O than there are here or any other Vol board I have found. from our point of veiw, LSU is very much a player, I don't see how you can think otherwise.. but I guess that is what makes us fans

Local radio is asking "Hey, what he going to do? Saints? LSU? Vols?"

But LSU is a none factor? I find that conclusion fascinating. Money, home and more titles than he has with the saints, maybe more money than saints, doesn't have to move, rake in LA talent, cake walk? But if wants DC then that is a problem and probably the hold up

This is not a flame question, but one I have asked myself.

do you think Lane's age is a factor with O? The used to work on the same staff at USC, yes, friends yes, but to be his boss? Do you think his pride is in the way here? Being a former HC himself.. And his dad in the mix too.. I am just wondering if you have tossed that around as a possible obstacle for O?

If O comes to UT as DL, make no mistake Monte will be his boss as much as Lane.
Lane is gonna give his dad every possible tool he can give him, and then get out of his way. Monte knows how to run a defense. He won't need his son's help doing that.

I do get on and check up on just about every team in the SEC at one point or another.

I do believe that it wouldn't be a problem having Lane as a boss. I think more than anything the draw of working for Monte would be the biggest factor.

I have wondered how well it would work, but I believe we could get him to a DC position quicker than LSU could. He's not the type of guy that would be happy staying a position coach, which is what he would be staying at in the NFL.

And like I said, I have been wrong before. LSU may be a bigger play than I have thought...but I think it would be hard to get passed the problems Miles and O have had.

By the way yes I look around tigerdroppings. Not as much anymore, because the workplace has blocked it. I think they are trying to send me a subtle message...

That's because most of us believe we are getting him and aren't overly concerned about it.

And you are really reaching for reasons Orgeron wouldn't come here. There are far more issues with LSU and Miles than with UT and Kiffin.

Lane has made it clear he will be comfortable turning the defense over to Monte so he can keep his focus on the offense.

Orgeron will answer to Lane ultimately...but most of his dealings will be with Monte.

as an avid LSU fan, I am clueless to these so called huge problems between the two. Sure there was some fireworks over certain recruits, but you have to be thick skinned to be in big boy football. Again, I think you sell Miles short.

Our boards would have continued talking about it if it were an still an issue. Like I said, Miles is a like able person, he respects people, this meeting was intended to sooth any feathers that maybe there,

At first LSU fans said Miles won't even call him, well that was bad speculation.. They met, and he offered him the job that weekend..

Coach O told Local HS coaches he was coming to LSU on the sidelines of the state championship games in the superdome.. "Allegedly" .

LOL!

Well if you can, check the "Coaching changes board" "The Rant" has become a place I don't care for too much this time of year ...and the "Recruiting board" is very informative...

They have and SEC Rant also! Let it rip

But you think Miles would offer him a job just off of a 2 hour meeting?

It was VERY heated between the two.

They may have gotten on speaking terms, but it's hard for me to believe in just 2 short hours they put aside years of dislike to the point that Miles would basically name him the top Asst on his staff.

I will have to check it out. I never post on another teams board. But I have registered with most all just to get a feel for what's being said.

I think you have fallen for some bad info on the blogs or something.. Your off base on this.. I am not saying it was perfect, In fact I have never met either person or asked them about thier relationship.

LSU, more specifically LES MIles has offered Coach O a job at LSU!

I think they got that worked out.. Bad blood won't be the reason he doesn't come to LSU

Yeah, I've heard they were both laughing and having a big time up in a suite or something during the HS championship. I think the whole fight between them is overblown, but I still think that moving about an hour away, along with taking less pay than he would get here or in NOLA doesn't seem to work out still. Especially if he's trying to get a job as DC as soon as possible

Well that wasn't recently I read a blog about it. This was before O was a thought to be at UT...

It was while he was at Ole Miss that I remember hearing of the dislike.

And I am slowly coming around to believe there is an offer on the table for him from Miles...

BUT, I still think he ends up in Knoxville because of what we can offer.

He would have the chance to be a coordinator in about 3-4 years...and that eventually could open up HC opportunities for him.

I have said on more than on occasion here, we all know the Coordinators get HC interviews, not DL coaches or position coaches.

I really hope this is all settled soon. Whoever gets him though is getting a good one.

Apextiger, I started a thread on the "Coaching Changes Board" on Tigerdroppings, I have heard both sides, and I have come to a conclusion.

No one really knows what is going to happen except for Ed himself. This is all speculation at this point. Both fanbases don't know, they just say what they want to hear.

Just because Miles has seemed to get over it and offered O a position doesn't mean there aren't still hard feelings on O's end. You can't use that as proof that they are over their differences.
