Orgeron Staying in NFL?

Les Miles gets too little credit IMO. I think he's an excellent coach.

An excellent coach wouldn't have lost a game with his NC team. He was lucky that was one of the craziest seasons in history. Any other season, and LSUs not even in the NC game. Les Miles is a slightly better Larry Coker.

But that only makes sense if you think LSU in fact has not offered Orgeron.

So, by that logic, if in fact LSU has offered (no way of proving this), that would mean that their relationship is a non-factor.

I believe they haven't offered, nor have been in serious contention for him.

You must be missing the part where you're coach is making more than we would be paying Monte, Lane, and O combined.

No I understand your arguement.. LSU has been moving it's budget up every year due to SEC competition... The HC salary and the Asst salaries are really a different budget line item.. The aren't really connected as you would think.. It's all about keeping up with the jones' in this CFB business these days..

Several programs are paying HC coaches 3 million plus or even 4...and paying OC and DC 500k or more. It wasn't that long ago top coaches were making 1.2 Million a year, now that's WAC money

I think this is the part that makes sense. It looks like we are behind in the times. LSU is giving our ex DC 150k raise. We are not use to paying a head coach 3 or 4 mil. And we are also not use to paying OC's and DC's 500k.

Theoretically, we went down in HC salary, but raised our staff budget. That tells me as far as $ goes we are fixing to catch up with the Jones's so to speak. (With our staff)

All information points to the contrary. Most say that he indeed has new offers with the Saints, LSU, and UT. The Saints are likely out of it though. From what everyone says it is LSU or UT. There is an offer on the table to LSU. Too many have confirmed it for that not to be the case.

I will gladly admit that I was wrong if he does in fact end up at LSU in the next few weeks...I just don't see it happening. It isn't feasible with Chavis going, especially with reports that Caldwell and Brooks both may be going.

I have said he was coming here from the beginning...and I'm not gonna back away from that.

I have been wrong before though...but my gut says he's gonna be a Vol.

hey Apextiger just wondering are you a Les Miles fan LOL!

Well, yes I I am a supporter of Miles. Most objective LSU fans will tell you that he is a great recruiter, very like able, Parents love him, players love him, much more than Nick, and is more of an CEO manager type, not complete hands on like Nick. He is way more competitive than people realize, and more competent that he comes off on TV.. Nick Saban is as good as it gets in football. We loved him, really hate him now lol! Miles is not as football savy as Nick but few are, but a HC doesn't have to be Nick Saban to be successful. Different ways to skin a cat, thats why asst coach hire are huge!

Personally, I don't have near the trust I had with Nick (when things go bad), just because Nick was a control freak, a really good salesman, machine like work ethic, and came off as knowing what the heck needs to happen moving forward. Miles public perception is nice guy, family guy, respect people, gets along, sometimes hard to understand LOL!

My closest LSU buddy tells me all the time that the DC hire is critical to Miles future. He needs an Ace on that side of the balls as evidenced this year. Now this year was a huge dissappointment, we are playing our 4th string QB since last April! the co-DC thing was an awful decision on Miles part. They were freinds of Miles and worked under Pelini for 3 years. Now, If Miles keep recruiting like is (have you seen LSU's current class? #1 on Rivals at the moment? we might sign 7 5 star guys, we have 4 right now, 1 is silent Craig Loston!) Anyways, Miles can flat recruit..and it looks good, real good to finish it out (sorry not bragging)

In the past Miles has made great hires, Gary Crowton is pretty dang good in our opinion, and BO Pelini, we learned was pretty good, and look at him at NB..

In conclusion, as a fan base, we really like Miles, but do worry after this season, but given RP was kicked off the team and the DC woes, and the hang over after a MNC, well, 7-5 is awful with LSU talent.. we hate it that Nick at Bama and went 12-0...but I always say, he only had one season at LSU he didn't lose 3 games or more...and Les has done better excluding this season...

So yes I like Miles, bring in Chavis is a good move, real good, and we will see about the other coaches... We have good players (50 5 star and 4 star players)..we just need a QB to step up next year!

Well, based on everthing I've read, I think it's fair to say that you are wrong about the personal relationship stuff because it sure appears as if he's been offered.

Having said that, that doesn't say anything about whether he'll be at TN or not. He very well may end up at TN anyway.

I have had my doubts at times...but I have said all along that he will be here...I'm in way too deep to back out now.

It just seems we have a lot more to offer at the time than LSU or the Saints do.

FWIW, I'm having beers with you in your backyard.

Hey doc, I was just wandering about your quote sig...are you exemplifying the fact that UF fans are grammatically challenged? or does it stand for your opinion of UT's need for change?

I agree with that.

If he wants a crack at DC, it will come quicker at UT.
The Brooks/Caldwell thing is what I can't figure out.
If that is true, they don't have a spot for him. Unless it is another position, and I highly doubt that.

And I'm supplying the keg.

Bo Pelini bailed him out of so many bonehead calls...

Kiffin Fan here...but are you gonna piss and moan when Kiff lines up for a 76 yd FG? I realize we dont have Janakowski but he might make similar ballsy moves, al a Les Miles.

Yes. And if Miles wouldn't let him bring some of his own staff members...he would have went "home" to Clemson.

I think that FG had a bit of a message behind it to the front office...

And yes I am a Kiffin fan, but if he sends Daniel Lincoln out for a 76 yard FG...or a 50 yard field goal for that matter...I'll throw something at him from my seat in section U...

The ESPN report suggested he may bring these coaches..

How many times has ESPN wrong lately? Muschamp to AU! LOL! It's been a bad season for ESPN SEC Bloggers and radio people IMO... Lots of bloggers and premium site admins have been embarrassed this year on "locks" or reports. I have never seen so much misinformation

So don't hang on to those coaches names as they don't fit. Coach O has been in the mix for about 3 weeks Per our most trusted poster.. He is very close to either AD or Miles himself, O was coming on board before we knew who the DC was going to be by our reporting FWIW. So it' s really Chavis has to work around O, not the other way around... If he doesn't come, reports are that Miles wants another NFL DL coach named Brick Haley.. I would conclude that Miles wants O pretty badly, I have followed this daily, I don't really know, I am behind a computer in North carolina, but I trust this particular person and the information they have provided to LSU fans..

I don't think Chavis brings anyone from his former job. Maybe 1

While all of this may indeed be true, if Kiffin sells Knoxville to O's family, O will be the next D-line coach at Tennessee. It will also be a done deal if we pay him enough $.

I'm not basing it on what ESPN says...

They rarely ever break any news. However, Low does a pretty good job of keeping up with the SEC.

I just honestly believe if he couldn't bring his guys with him (Caldwell and Brooks), he would have ended up going to Clemson.

To be fair, Muschamp supposedly had a deal with AU, and didn't want it to get out until after the bowl game, and he nixed it when it did.

And I'm hearing LSU has an offer for Orgeron, but its likely final and won't increase. No specific number, but they seem to think it's between 400 and 500k a year.

That was reported by a ESPN guy that has been spot on in regards to us. He broke the story about Fulmer leaving, and was one of the first to jump on Lane and Monte deals. This may be the one that gets us, but he has said for 3 or 4 weeks that he felt O was coming to Kville.
To my knowledge he is standing behind it after all this other info has surfaced.

Heck for all I know O will be the HC of the Cowboys next year.

I don't think Chavis would have gone to LSU without having a deal to bring at least one coach with him. Clemson told him he couldn't bring anyone, and that is his home. If the deal was the same at both schools, he would be at Clemson.
