Orgeron Staying in NFL?

Orgeron returned to the college ranks in 1994 at Nicholls State University before moving to Syracuse University in 1995,[1] where he met his wife Kelly in 1996.[2]

Before being hired by Mississippi, he was the defensive line coach and assistant head coach for the University of Southern California (USC) where played a key role in Pete Carroll's Trojans winning the co-national championship in 2003 and the outright national championship in 2004. He joined the USC staff in January 1998, took on the added responsibility of recruiting coordinator for the Trojans in 2001, and was then named assistant head coach in 2003.

In previous years, Orgeron was an assistant at the University of Miami, where he coached eight All-Americans, including NFL first rounders Cortez Kennedy, Russell Maryland and Warren Sapp. During his tenure at Miami, the Hurricanes won the national championship twice (1989 and 1991).

Orgeron was the National Recruiter of the Year in 2004, which prompted the University of Mississippi to hire him after the school's firing of David Cutcliffe.

Remember, it's not just USC, he did a great job at Miami (Fl) also...

Orgeron would be a monstrous addition to this coaching staff.

Defensive line play, specifically in the pass rush, is critical to the success of Monte Kiffin's cover 2. We need a D-Line coach like Ed who can inspire his unit to play with ruthless aggression.

Very true, our LB's in chief's defenses did a fair to good job against the run in general but I feel a huge weakness in the Vol's D going back to '01 maybe was the poor job our LB's do in pass coverage in zones. They rarely closed passing lanes...heck the Gators feasted on 10 yard slants because our LB's were to slow. The D-line has to pressure just the 4 of them, or has had to to cause punts, then when they could'nt because of poor execution the weaknesses of the LB's stood out huge. I'd be screamin man if they can't cover in a 10 yard box blitz em up the middle geez!

When florida spreads you out like that, you either have to get pressure with your front four or blitz. You hope the qb isn't smart enough to take advantage of where your blitzing from. In tebow's case he can figure it out.

I'd say chavis did about the best job of anyone with them this year. We just don't have those difference makers on the d-line right now. We need someone to demand a double team on the line. I don't see that guy. Until he's there the spread will eat our lunch.

UT needs to offer Monte K type money to get Orgeron, even if means $1 mil per year! The UT D needs Ed O bad baby!!!

i've heard from friend that LSU is expected to hire Chavis next week. No real source, just some grumblings and rumors from his friends in BR... tifwiw.

I have heard the same. I have also heard though that Chavis is hoping to hear some possible offers from the NFL after this week.

Does anybody know what he is making at New Orleans?

To be honest I don't know and can't find a link that shows or hints at his salary. I have heard though that the Saints have supposedly talked raise possibilities for him to counteroffer his name being thrown out for potential college jobs, particulary here.

Yeah I heard the same, The Saints are gonna make us pay more to get him.

If they don't promote him to a higher position they have a ceiling they will pay that should be less than ours.

We will have to pay high end DC money to get him I think.
$350,000 to $500,000 range.

HV said Hubbs still thinks he is coming here. Should hear something next week.

Yea Hubbs hasn't waivered. I will take his word and Chris Low's word over what I have seen and heard from other sources.

Coach O's only other options I have heard are the Saints and LSU.
Both have their positives and negatives for him. Hope there are more negatives.

Monte Kiffin Wanting More Money From UT?
December 23rd, 2008 4:30 pm ║ Posted By: John Pennington ║ Permalink ║ Tags: Tennessee

Our Jimmy Hyams has learned that Monte Kiffin will be paid MORE than $1 million to join his son’s staff at Tennessee as defensive coordinator.

The elder Kiffin told his current team two weeks ago that he would be leaving the Buccaneers for the Volunteers… and as Cris Collinsworth pointed out on NBC’s “Football Night in America,” the Bucs immediately tanked.

It is believed by most that the deal for the elder Kiffin is done.

However, there are rumors in the wind that the senior Kiffin, who was expected to make $1 million, might have come back to Tennessee recently and asked for MORE money.

He makes $2.2 million with Tampa Bay. It is expected that his salary at UT could go as high as… get this… $1.5 million dollars.

So, will Monte be making more than a million because that was the original deal? Or did he come back and ask for more once the news broke that he was coming?

We may never know.

As we pointed out on this site three weeks ago, Tennessee is prepared to hire the most expensive staff in SEC history if that’s what it takes.

Keep in mind, athletic director Mike Hamilton’s rear is on the line right beside Lane Kiffin. He’ll pay what it takes to ensure Kiffin’s success and his own survival.

In related news, Lane Kiffin had planned to attend the Oakland-Tampa Bay game this weekend, but his father has told him not to come because his presence would serve as a distraction.
