Neither the Ducks nor the Vols intentionally ran up the score. Both the 72 point game and the 50 point game were the results of playing against absolutely terrible defenses that couldn't stop the simplest of plays.

That's all. Move on.

Exactly.

We were running the ball, defense made some plays and our starters are so inexperienced they had to play and if you would fact check by looking at the game stats you would see that we rotated a lot of players

Thanks for playing though

My point exactly. It's not running up the score if we rotated our reserves in and ran simple running plays the entire time. We can't be accused of running up the score if we used reserves just as you did.

True. I think we learned little, if anything, from that pair of games.

Agreed. I am sure that Wilcox has a well planned scheme already in place. Good luck to you. I am planning on being there as well. Go Vols !

Justin Wilcox is very intelligent and he's great at what he does. We'll see what happens on Saturday, and good luck to you too, sir. :)

I don't really give a ****, anyone who comes here and trys to spin their 72 point victory against a scrub team as any better than a 50 point victory should really not expect a great reception

Uh, I didn't say anything to that effect.

I agree but I believe Oregon ran the score up to impress the voters!!

It was 59-0 as half... and from the middle of the second backups were on. On top of that, LaMichael James was out. I highly doubt the intent was to "impress the voters" with a win over New Mexico. :hi:

The polls tell the story friend. If you think this victory won't look better than us demolishing Portland State in a couple weeks then you're mentally unstable.

Well, friend the difference between a 72 point victory and a 50 point victory is pretty much negligible

Agreed, but the classification of the opponent in which you play has a lot to do with it. Playing FCS schools doesn't help any team, it just fills space on the schedule. Defeating an FCS opponent can't help you, it can only hurt you if you lose *cough* Ole Miss *cough*. Even Florida's narrow victory over an FBS team will help them in the long run as opposed to any victory over an FCS school. We will be in the same boat you all were in tonight against Portland State in two weeks. We'll be in a situation where a win means nothing, but a loss means everything.

it was also 59-0 at halftime which is insane. They are a dynamic football team with playmakers all over the field. They are one of the best teams in america. Why people think that if we lose to them we are a terrible team and our whole season is down the drain is beyond me. That being said we are alot better than people think and i expect this to be a highly competitive 4 qtr football game. Neyland should be rocking with optimism. Lets go vols

What are we even talking about here? The polls? Or the quality of opponents that we faced tonight? The bottom line is, and I think the Oregon fan put it best, is that both teams just took two very inferior teams to the woodshed tonight. And I really don't think it matters what the final scores for each game were. I mean, Tennessee easily could've scored more points in the fourth quarter. But we ran the clock out instead. Oregon putting up 72 against New Mexico doesn't tell us anything about how they'll fare against Tennessee. Just like Tennessee putting up 50 against Martin doesn't tell us anything about how they'll fare against Oregon.

All we know right now is that Oregon has some playmakers and is a solid team, and Tennessee has some good young players but is still building the foundation. The rest won't be settled until next Saturday.

GO VOLS!

Exactly, I was commenting on how people seemed to think that our victory was equally impressive as Tennessee's and how we "ran up the score." I never said that how badly we beat New Mexico had any affect on how we'll play Saturday or that by Tennessee not scoring more points on a lesser opponent meant anything negative towards them regarding the game on Saturday. I'm just defending my team as you all are.

I'll be there, and I have no doubt it'll be a great game. I just hope for Tennessee's sake they have someone who can stop LaMichael James and Kenjon Barner. If not, it'll be over quickly.

We have weaknesses, but defense isn't one of the larger.

If you take a step back I think you'll notice that few have accused you of running up the score. Like you said, can't start taking a knee in the second quarter.

Yes, but we're running behind the same 5 who blocked for us last season. You aren't the same defense you were last year, but we're a better running team than we were last season. We have one of the deepest backfields in the country, behind a veteran offensive line. I'm not questioning your defense as much as I am stating that we're a phenomenal running team.
