My attitude would not change Gramps. If they're targeting the govt, it's not terrorism imo. If BLM or other similar groups would target their governments and not highways, homecoming parades, and libraries, and gathered around the legitimate cases, I'd have more sympathy for them.
What is BLM targeting?
Black lives matter? Well it would seem everything but the actual issue. Blocking highways, going into libraries berating white people asking if they think black lives matter, etc. They talk about targeting govt but they want to do it through yet more govt and use race to divide instead of finding the common enemy (the state)
The same folks that berate police action in the context of the Oregon folks defend it in regards to how they handle the minorities. The police are above reproach when dealing with black people, but overreach and are looking for a violent outcome when dealing with whitey.
Gore divided America when he congratulated Bush on his victory and then demanded a recount. Had he not pulled that stunt no one would be talking about how Bush "stole" the election.
The nation came together after that . Shortly after 9/11 the US was united behind W. He had approval ratings in the 80's. I don't think the true division of America started until W's second term.
It was not only a Left vs Right division during the W years even the GOP was divided. Here is an article where McCain bashed him hard in 2008. Near thee end of W's 2nd term , he was poison.
