starters are decent, lots of unproven talent behind them though.
maehl, tuinei, davis should start against the vols

Force them to become one diminutional, I like your thinking son lol. To me they don't look that big so we need to knock the dog piss out of them, by the 2nd qtr they will get alligator arms and drop the pass everytime they hear foot steps!!

If their receivers are killing us, we're done for anyway. We have way bigger concerns.

If UT can go man to man often then that would be a very good step toward stopping them.

Their receivers aren't great (unless someone seriously steps up), but aren't a weakness.

UT secondary is generally better than Oregon receivers. Enough to lock up man on man and liberally blitz. Not enough to do it without getting burned a few times.

You think you can blitz a lot against the spread? I haven't seen that very often.

If the info i think i read about you guys having all freshman CBs, Than yeah they probably will. Mostly the
"Maehl Man" a converted CB, with boundless athleticism, and a penchant for being right where he needs to during big plays. Usually outruns most CBs, so if they're n00bs; He will likely lose them.

Lavasier is looking better this year. he doesnt seem to be
the guy in the middle of as many big plays, but has good hands, and great reach.

Dj Davis is another improved vet, usually good at throwing blocks at the right times.

And then we have TE David Paulson, who you will see in both big plays and throw great blocks.

Your receivers would be wise to not allow Janzen Jackson to square up on any of them. Death could ensue.

No, that's not what I said.

I said we can lock up with the Oregon receivers and blitz liberally, that doesn't mean foolishly.

Spread doesn't grant immunity to third and long. There will be passing downs in this game. Last year, there were plenty of third and passing downs for Oregon. There will be plenty this year. Not every team is New Mexico where 2nd and 3 is the result of an off play.

The spread is an offensive scheme. Its a good one. It doesn't have some sort of mystical quality that suspends the normal rules of down and distance defense.

It works if done Boise style. They blitz but do it in a controlled, disciplined, and patient way. What they do is strictly cover exit lanes instead of going hellbent for the QB. It looked like it was three guys who consistently do go hellbent but the LBs act like flex fences where the ball carrier is sort of forced into their area where they then use sound tackling technique to bring him down whether its the QB, RB, or what.
