from day 1 it's been obvious all he cares about is winning. his demeanor and his lack of discipline are fairly obvious for everyone outside of eugene. that and he's a dumb redneck.

Do you think this is why Peter Sirmon really came to UT? I know he and Wilcox are buddies, but I was surprised he took an non-paying job in a town where he knew only Wilcox when he was at his alma mater. Duck fans, feel free to chime in. I was surprised when he came here and curious...

Well, he has Tennessee connections (former Titan). We didn't really need him on our staff. No vacancies.

This game has a great potential to get our of hand very quickly, unless Oregon somehow completely fell apart under pressure, or their QB was just incapable of doing anything (like ours).

i'm sure that's true, but that's a pretty low bar.

...

relavance? dixon sucked as his first year as a starter. he crapped the bed against cal after the crowd rattled him. imagine what thomas might do in front of 100,000. masoli was less than spectacular his first year too despite oregon fans selective memory.

The relevance is that Dixon wasn't being coached by Chip Kelly his first year as a starter.

Masoli led a 10-3 season his first year under Kelly. I guess you could say that anything less than undefeated is "less than spectacular." But, that's a pretty high bar.

To put your idea into the context of this thread, how many 10-3 teams do you think UT is going to beat this year? If we're giving merit to the history of QBs first year under Kelly, UT is in trouble. Dixon, Roper and Masoli all put up huge numbers under Kelly their first years working with him. The only exception at Oregon is Costa who only started one game in a mediocre win. Before Oregon, it was the same thing:

Kelly was promoted to offensive coordinator at New Hampshire (1999–2006). The Wildcats' offenses averaged better than 400 yards of total offense in seven of his eight seasons and more than 30 points per game in his final four seasons.
In 2004, the school broke 29 offensive school records; compiling 5,446 yards of total offense and scoring 40 or more points in seven games. Their best offensive output was in 2005 when the Wildcats finished second nationally in total offense (493.5 ypg), third in scoring (41.7 ppg) and fifth in passing (300.1 ypg). They completed the season with an 11–2 record. Kelly was named the College Assistant Coach of the Year by the Gridiron Club of Greater Boston and selected as "one of college football's hottest coaches" by American Football Monthly.

The guy has a proven track record of getting good performances out of his QBs.

Ironic.

In my view, the confident use of fallacies is a pre-requisite for stupidity.

as for your cal slam we shall see how you guys deal with the expectations. in the past you haven't done any better than we have.

Absolutely false.

What Is the Most Overrated College Football Program in the Country?

As you can see, California is up there amongst the more historically over-rated programs in football. Oregon is nearly the most under-rated.

I see so it's your belief that someone would plead guilty to a domestic violence charge if all he did was take his keys back? jesus you guys will believe anything wont you?

Are you saying that you don't believe that the police report is accurate?

i assume you also believe that garbage that masoli just happened to get convicted of 2 felony robberies in his life because he keeps being in the wrong place at the wrong time?

Are you now trying to float the argument that most Duck fans think that Masoli should still be on the team?

i can't wait for the inevitable collapse this season. duck fans are among the most delusional in the country. eugene will continue to have one of the highest suicide rates in the country.

Classy.

You never know. The Ducks could have a bad season. Though, I don't think anyone will credit someone like you with such a prediction since you make the same one every season. Even a broken clock is right twice a day.

The Ducks defense led the Pac-10 in fewest yards allowed per play under their current DC Nick Aliotti. I think that Wilcox would be welcome there under the right circumstances. But, they weren't going to replace Aliotti this year.

I just want to beat UTM first.

If you are honestly concerned about the Vols beating Martin then you must worry a lot. Do you ever think to yourself, "Gee, I wish I could get to my kitchen to get a drink, but if I venture that far I might fall or be eaten by a possible invading bear. We have those here, you know. Bears that break into houses and steal your food and mess with garbage. It's terrible..."? We are not losing to Martin.

Just look at the stats on that depth chart that show games played. That is an experienced defense with a lot of speed up and down the roster.

If Tennessee doesn't get blitzed right off the field to start the game, and they hang tight into the 2nd half, they have a shot.

But I wouldn't be shocked if the offense moves in reverse in the first quarter and UO scores quickly on some short fields and jumps out on top right away.

I know this is a simple concept but Wilcox has said his key to stopping the spread is very good open field tackling. He says that he can scheme us to allow us to have a LB free to make the tackle but they have to be able to make them in space.

If we can have sound open field tackling in this game we can stop them, if we start having and Ole Miss last year tackling experience it will get ugly quick.

Probably the best post in this thread. That's exactly how Wilcox beat us last year at Boise. First you've got to have the speed to cover, second you have to have good open field tackling and third you've got to keep from getting winded. Which means you need depth on defense.

Yeah, most good defensive coaches are good at two things:

1. Putting their players in position to make a play/tackle.
2. Teaching their players HOW to MAKE the play/tackle when the time comes.

Combine those 2 things with depth, and you have a stud defense.

Regardless of talent.

We've got to get past this PAC 10 hurdle we've struggled with. I have my doubts on the outcome of the game, either way. But what a HUGE win it would be for our program. Cal's speed killed us, UCLA played well but had a very lucky 2nd half, how will we finish this one? If we're not hungry somethings wrong. Go Vols!

Yeah...since we are halfway through the season, its easy to call games like this, huh? Go away nego

Does Steve Prefontaine still play football at Oregon? ;)

Cute, I actually knew Steve on a casual basis. He use to date a friend of mine. Use to play pool with him every now and then.

Just so you know, the movies didn't really do a good job of discribing his private life related to women. I'll leave it there. But that wasn't really the point of the movies so I guess his social life was not important to the movies.

I know I was just trying to be funny. I have always loved Pre. I'm a runner myself and he's somebody that I will always admire. I'm a Duck fan when it comes to Cross Country

I remember one meet where Pre posted his lap times in the local paper Thursday, two days "before" the meet. On Saturday, everyone in the stands had copies from the paper and when Pre turned a 54 when he'd said he was going to be doing a 58 the place went nuts. I think that was against Rono. He crushed the guy.

I ran cross country in high school and a high school teammate (Dave Wilburn) held the Oregon mile record till Pre showed up. Dave turned a 3:56 at Oregon and did a 4:02 in high school losing to a guy from Kansas by the name of Jim Ryan. My best high school mile was a 4:26 and I didn't make varsity with that time.... damn we had some fast guys.

Pre was a good guy, sometimes it was difficult to get away from the media and the wanabees.

One point about that "Two Deep" list. It's for the New Mexico game, not the Tennessee game. I'd expect changes to the list for the Tennessee game. I'm not sure those will be published....
