Orangeslice13, a blessing to those around him…..Again

My family name was changed to smith when my great great grandfather came here at the end of WW1 to escape the Hebrew hate that was just getting started there. Everyone else was eventually killed in the gas chambers. My 2 sons are all that’s left of that name.

yes, I get a little sensitive about the subject of Nazis.

I do not blame you, the whole idea of anti-judaism in Germany was ridiculous from the get go. MY Dad's family are all German, but they came over during the Civil War. (one got shanghaied his first night out in a bar into teh army) AS my grandfather always said every German has some Jewish in him. Even Adolf was part Jewish. My own German side of the family were Christian for a very very long time going back to last crusade days at least....and yet the family name is clearly Yiddish in origin. To me the greatest irony of all of it, is you can't really separate the German people of the last 700 hundred years with the Ashkenaz the people are so intermarried that genetically speaking there just isn't much difference except culture and religion. The German royal family even had Ashkenaz roots. Hell even the food of Germany is a mix of teh cultures. I know my own last name is based on a root Yididsh word for healer or holy man, also from Westphalia region which was heavily Ashkenaz. MY mom's side are Viking+French aka Plantagenet.... and a few Scotch and Squaws added in along the way after America and she has people from both Plymouth and Jamestown in her tree. There's no such thing in my mind to any people that are purely any one origin. Europe was a melting pot before America was a melting pot. What pains me is I see a lot of the Socialist nonsense Hitler preached making a come back today under new names, same old plot of using "race" "sex" "religion" to divide and conquer people.

Who is this guy? I recall stories about Argentinian military leaders dropping prisoners out of helicopters into the middle of River Platte. Didn’t know if this was one such person.
He's the only leader to successfully fend of a communist take over after it reached the tipping point. Free one way helo rides were apart of that process. However the people in question had caused many death directly or indirectly before they got the ride.

Hey @Orangeslice13, my son is really into bjj and wants to wrestle as well (and tackle football but thats a different discussion). Should he continue with the bjj and wait on the other or try to mix? He's about to turn 9

I'm obviously not slice, but we have a friend who's son wrestled, and took BJJ in highschool. He done pretty good in both, still into the BJJ. Not saying that's the answer, but this kid done it, and it didn't seem to mess him up. I do know each person is different though. I like BJJ, think it's cool he's into it.

He loves bjj and is strong for his age. Plus he had a mean streak and this allows him a chance to use it

I know you asked slice but I’ve coached wrestling about 4 yrs and taught jui jitsu most my life. If he wants to do it let him the hardest transition between the two is not going to your back in wrestling. But he will gain major benefits from both in both. My sons sophomore yr he was captain of his high school team and was able to wrestle several classes up

I stopped him from wrestling his senior year due to a neck injury. He had interest from some big northern schools but I always told him if he ever hurt his neck he was done

Absolutely continue with the BJJ. It’s a completely different set of rules but very valuable information. I would also recommend that he wrestles freestyle. The only thing that I would recommend is doing one at a time. Basically no BJJ during wrestling. No wrestling or BJJ during freestyle.

Keep me posted on how he does.

Appreciate it. I figured his escapes and just confidence in 1v1 would really help. His school is always trying to get kids in the wrestling club but he hasn't asked since we started bjj

We're staying in bjj for a while but one day he'll want to try wrestling since it's a school sport. He really likes this which isn't common for him. Kids has absolutely no fear and is a thinker which most in his class aren't. It scares me a little how much he likes to choke out other kids though

He needs to wrestle now. And not year round. But he definitely needs to be mixing the sports if he’s going to wrestle later.
It’s important because you don’t want him thinking about which sport he’s in. By the time middle school comes he won’t have to think about the rules of what he’s doing….they will be completely different spots in his mind. All the kids I coached in high school that started one or the other later all struggled.

That’s a wrestler!
I’m looking forward to following his progress through the next few years.
