One of the arteries which feed my heart is only 67% efficient. The others are 90+% efficient. Doc wanted to see if I’d code out on the treadmill. Not really. He knows that I’m active. He wanted before, during, and after metrics and imagery. So what sent you to the doc for the treadmill stress test? Are you symptomatic? That's not a routine test for us old farts. (Please feel free to tell me to STFU and MYOB)
My VN frequency is proportional to how well UT teams are doing. Been a hell of year for us across the three major sports.
It is nice to see solid old school posters such as yourself still around, but disheartening to see the overall quality of posters decrease.
This post exemplifies why VN (Politics section) was more fun back in the day. You are able to tacitly admit the Euthyphro dilemma and your adherence to the might makes right horn. Quite rare to have a grasp of the philosophical dilemmas in these weighty subjects while also giving candid responses devoid of trite ideology.
I think the might makes right horn of the dilemma is the correct horn. A lot of unnecessary philosophical/theological mistakes could be avoided if more religious people took this approach.
Tying this back to the thought experiment, if there was no afterlife, meaning no punishment or reward for deeds/character while on the Earthly realm, the might makes right proposition starts to weaken considerably. The window for consequences shortens dramatically to just within the Earthly realm. You would also have the additional problem of "bad" people seemingly doing OK within the Earthly realm while "good" people seemingly suffer. In other words, the might makes right deity who refrains from interfering with the Earthy realm too much would need the afterlife, or at least the threat of one, to impose his moral outlook.
I spent some time thinking about this as I have not addressed this issue in a while. I’ve modified my beliefs slightly over the years apparently so this is where I am now.
I agree that the vast majority of those who are religious need the reward/punishment system to remain religious. And that’s actually the point I’m making. Is the gift of life not reward enough? At this point a lot of people revert to “what about those who are sick?”
My response has always been “have you asked them?” It’s been my experience that the afflicted tend to be the most grateful for this life and the time they’ve been given and are usually the most faithful believers.
Having said that……
Have you ever considered a different motive from G-ds perspective? Take the Job story as a metaphor for all of humanity. The challenge that G-d exposes there is “people (Job) only follow you because you bless them. “ In fact no challenge is vocalized. G-d more or less reads the room and brings it up….”have you considered my servant Job?”…..to force the challenge.
What if all of humanity is about determining the answer to that question. In that situation G-d would not be trying to enforce a moral code so much as put it out there and see who follows …..
Edit: I don’t know if you have followed or seen my posts on the subject but I don’t subscribe to the concept of hell/ eternal torture. I believe scripture is clear that there is only life for the Righteous and Death for the UnRighteous. The concept of hell is a corruption from the Devine Comedy “Dante’s Inferno”
Can you see the free will tie in coming?
Oh, and Go Vols.
Wtf?!?It also helps that those Gerbers are military issue. @Behr, let me check my military clothing record vs how many I have. I can probably ship you one.
But his parachutes were packed by people who could have to test said parachute at any point…I once asked my brother (the one in the NewYork pictures) “how can you airborne guys jump out of airplanes like it’s no big deal?” He said “that airplane was made by the cheapest bidder” I said “so was the parachute “
Really? So now that we are priest believers and Jesus is our high priest, what need is there for Aaron's priesthood?
Answer: Aaron's priesthood has been fulfilled! Now done away with!
The Jewish people that will be responsible for the building of the tribulation temple are lost Jews and will remain lost until they get saved. So I don't know why you have trouble grasping this! I'm not saying that they will be right with God and sacrificing the animals for their blood sacrifices.
Now then the millennial Temple is another story. It will be a memorial sacrifice and I do not know all of the details. It will be different because it will be instituted by Christ himself. Therefore they can be right with God because they have received Christ as the Messiah.
