Had an accountant friend that wanted to retire and did the same thing. Just started charging an exorbitant rate figuring his clients would go elsewhere. Wrong! He kept raising his rates but as some old clients started to gradually leave, new clients, apparently believing higher rates meant better service, were pounding at his door. So he worked at the new, astronomical rates for a couple of years and disconnected his phone and retired.
